WPE Parent Weekly Update 5/10/2020
Greetings, WPE Families!
We hope you receive this email well and are safe and healthy. This week, an exciting step in our new school occurred with groundbreaking and earth moving! Here’s a picture of the northern build site – more exciting information and pictures will be coming. We are so excited to see this building go up on schedule! I encourage you to go out on a walk and check out what’s happening on the site over the summer (from outside of the fence) – it will be changing a lot! Below you’ll see a water truck keeping dust down and also Ms. Fitz (taking off her face mask for a picture) with a dozer in the background. That shovel will not look new for long!

*Final Packet Pick Up and Student Belonging Distribution:
Tomorrow Monday, May 11 from 8:00am-4:00pm and Tuesday May 12 from 3:00pm-7:00pm we will host our final packet/belonging pick up at West Park (not at LCIS). At this time we plan to distribute: the last two weeks of at-home learning activities, the remaining spring pictures, student art pieces, yearbooks, and student belongings that were left at the hook spots. We have ordered extra yearbooks if you wish to still purchase one (please bring a check for $25). You may also return WPE library books and public library books at this time! Currently, our staff is gathering up your child’s belongings and preparing them for you to take home. These items will be in a larger bag to keep everything together. If you are missing a clothing item, we may have it in our lost and found – please let your crew teacher know! We will have the larger lost and found items out for you over on the softball field fence to look through.
Distribution for these days will follow a similar structure as we followed at LCIS: parents will enter the WPE drop off lane from 12th Street, drive up to the cone at the front entrance, remain in their vehicles and tell the WPE staff member their child’s name and grade level. A staff member will bring your child’s items to you. The next stop is for art items that will be delivered to you at the western walkway. Please only plan to get out of your vehicle if you want to look at the lost and found items and remember to follow social distancing recommendations. All staff members will practice social distancing and wear a mask, to keep everyone safe!
Because we are offering two pick-up sessions with extended hours on Tuesday, we are asking that all families make a plan to come and pick up their child’s belongings at this time. If you are currently under a medical quarantine or do not have a way to get into town, please let your crew teacher know and we can develop a plan to get you your child’s belongings. We can also make appointments for later in the week, if you are not in town on these distribution days. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing all families on May 11th and 12th!
*We will be mailing report cards home the week of May 18th. These reports will reflect student progress through March 13, 2020. If your mailing address has changed since registration, please leave a message with the WPE office at 719-486-6890.
*If you are moving over the summer, please let the front office (719-486-6890) know so that we can get all of your child’s records together for an easy transition. We appreciate your letting us know in advance for accurate records and class lists.
*We will be sending off our 2nd graders to LCIS with our best wishes! We want our rising 3rd graders to feel as comfortable as possible with the exciting transition ahead! 2nd grade parents, here is a link to afun orientation video created by the LCIS staff to help decrease the “new school” worries.
*We know that when we return to school in August, it will be different – what we don’t know is how different. Please know that the WPE and District leadership teams are working very hard to create plans depending upon the different ways in which school might open up. We are responding to the ever-changing environment in which to keep everyone safe in a school setting. Please keep an eye out over the summer for updates, as they are developed. We will email and create website posts, of which you’ll be aware by text notification.
*Please reach out if we can help with anything during this challenging time. Christy Trujillo (719-427-0105) and Amber Borcyk (719-293-1751) are more than happy to help you navigate these changing times and situations!
