| LCES Families, The perseverance we are seeing each day is incredible! We understand getting used to school again can be very tiring and by Thursday it’s evident those little minds are tired. Thank you for sending your child to us each day! If you weren’t here to pay your child’s $35.00 student supply fee (K-2) at registration, you can still make a payment online using Efunds or stop by the main office. If your child will be absent please call the office by 8:45 am or if you need to change your child’s after school plans (Must be done by 2:30pm) please reach out to Marissa or Zee in the front office at 719-486-6890 or 719-486-6895 for spanish. Also, a friendly reminder that ALL playgrounds at LCES are unavailable to the public and parents/students that are not enrolled in Project Dream between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm from Monday through Thursday & 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday. You are welcome to use our playgrounds after these hours during the week. I’ve enjoyed the many parent conversations I’ve had this week and I truly value the relationships and connections. Should you have a celebration or a concern, I want to know! Please know I am here for your student and will always be a listening ear. Have a fantastic weekend and Happy September! Sincerely, Brandi Lovely, Principal blovely@lakecountyschools.net | |

| Parent Volunteers: If interested in volunteering, we encourage parents to reach out to their child’s teacher or Mrs. Lovely to see where the biggest need of help may be. Sometimes this may look like making copies or laminating new math materials or even volunteering at a field trip like the upcoming Cornerstone trips. We always appreciate the extra help! You’re Invited to Lunch!: Parents and guardians are welcome to join your student during their lunch time. Lunch times are as follows: Kindergarten eats at 11:40, first grade eats at 12:00, and second grade eats at 12:20. Please be sure to sign in at the front office and if eating school lunch, bring $4.50 for an adult meal. Thanks! Attendance Reminder: If you know your child will be absent from school, please notify our front office staff. If your child is planning to miss school for 3 or more days, you should complete the Request for Pre-Arranged Absence Form in the front office. This form should be submitted three days prior to the absence so that we can notify your child’s teachers and appropriate support for your child can be put into place. We follow the district attendance policy, as follows: 1. After 7 absences, we require a doctor’s note to excuse all future absences. 2. At 10 absences, we notify parents/caretakers of our concerns in writing and meet to establish an attendance success plan. 3. At 15 absences (chronic absenteeism defined in BOE Policy JH), we hold an attendance meeting to discuss further actions as needed. Any further absences the parent/guardian must call and speak with the Assistant Principal directly. 4. At 20 absences, the Assistant Principal may refer the student to Nancy Abila the Juvenile Diversion Coordinator for the District Attorney’s office or Truancy Court. Thank you for your support in ensuring that our students are here and ready to learn each day! September Attendance Challenge: For the month of September, crews will be participating in our September attendance challenge. Our school attendance goal is 94%. The class with the best attendance for each grade level will receive an extra recess with Ms. Rapke. Please try to send your student to school every day, unless they are too sick. We appreciate your help in reaching our 94% attendance goal! Morning Drop Off: Parents are welcome to drop off students at their cubby in the pod. Please respect the teacher’s time and know their main responsibility is to supervise the classroom. Should you need to speak with a teacher, please contact your child’s teacher or the front office to schedule a conference. The drop off lane and front doors close at 8:00am. This means tardy time is 8:00. If your child arrives after 8:00, they must check in with the front office and receive a tardy slip to give to their teacher. PM Pick Up: Pick up begins around 3:20 at both the back car lane and the front doors. Thank you for your patience these first couple of weeks as we have lots of students who are getting picked up. If you are picking up in the car lane, please have your CarRiderPro tag hanging up on your rearview mirror. This tag ensures we get your child out to you promptly. If you do not have a tag, please stop by the front office. Yellow Thursday Folder: Each student has a yellow folder for home and school communication. Each Thursday your student should be bringing home their yellow folder. Review the notes inside and then send back the folder each week. Thank you! | |

| Hello Center Families, Happy September! It has been another good week in the preschool wing. I have really enjoyed seeing families during drop off each day. We are settling into the school year with what now feels like a very familiar daily routine. Program Updates: More fun things are in the works next week. We will begin the use of our CKLA and Creative Curriculums. We will also start our rotation specials with PreK-2 specials teachers. There is more about that below from the assistant director, Kelly Horning. Thanks to our amazing PreK-2 secretaries, our PreK TV in the main entry way is up and running. Check it out for some monthly announcements, community events and resource information, and even some pictures of daily happenings in our building. Tuition Scholarships:We still have some tuition scholarships available to families that have out of pocket tuition costs. If you have a monthly balance on your tuition please see Marissa for our scholarship application. These scholarships are intended to help as many families as we can. Don’t be shy! Talk to Marissa to see if your family will qualify for a little bit of tuition relief this fall. Substitute Teachers: There are times when we do not have subs to cover all classrooms if multiple teachers are out at the same time. In this event, classrooms will be combined into other rooms. We will continue to maintain our student to teacher ratio and support our preschoolers in the best way possible even in a new classroom environment. This is our last resort for coverage but we want families to be aware of this practice. If your child’s classroom is closed and combined, you will see a note on the door letting you know which classroom to go to for pick up. We are always looking for new members to join our team and build our substitute teacher pool. Help us spread the word or reach out to Tanya Lenhard, Preschool Director, if you have interest yourself. Classroom and Curriculum Updates: We are beginning our CKLA, Core Knowledge Language Arts, curriculum next week. Our first domain is All About Me and students will be learning about themselves and each other. We will learn about how we are all different and how we are also the same. We will learn words to describe ourselves and name our body parts. We will also be painting, playing with play doh, and playing musical instruments. This week also marks the beginning of Specials! These include music, art, library, and gym. We are excited to start digging deep in our learning. Please send in a photograph or email your classroom teacher a photograph of your child as a baby for us to use in an activity at school. Child Tips and Tricks:Try this: Read Aloud Each Day: Children love hearing stories. Before you read a book, talk about the title of the book and what it might mean. As you read, point to and label the character’s body parts. Talk about whether or not the characters are humans. (Your child is learning the word human in school). Family Engagement Corner: WELCOME TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR AT THE CENTER!What exciting days we are having at The Center! Thank you for being a part of this amazing program and allowing us to partner with you in your child’s development. Getting into a “Back to School Routine” can be challenging for families especially after the relaxing days of Summer! And, if this is your child’s first experience attending a weekday program, it can be even more challenging. Please note the tips below to help your family establish a smooth and happy transition into a wonderful school year. Helpful Tips for Starting a New School Year Use these tips to help both you and your child make a smooth transition to a new School Year: – Establish a routine of “early to bed” and “school wake-up time” so your child can adjust to a new schedule. – Discuss toileting procedures with your child’s school so you can review the situation with your child and make sure they are comfortable. – If there’s a home visit or school visiting day, make sure you and your child participate. – Make a book at home about the new preschool experience. Perhaps take photos of the school or of your child in front of school and add text like: “This is Sammy at school. This is her favorite t-shirt. This is Mommy picking up Sammy when school is over.” – Let your child pick out a new backpack and together write their name on it. – Tell stories about when you went to school and share how you felt about it. Find childhood pictures of yourself and other adults in your child’s life and talk about the photos. – If your child has never before been cared for by someone else, start to leave them for short periods of time with friends or relatives. Reinforce the fact that you will return and that they are safe with others. – Give your child a personal belonging of yours like a favorite scarf or bandanna so they know you will come back to get it. – Read books about going to school and saying goodbye, such as The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn David Goes to School by David Shannon Will I Have a Friend? by Miriam Cohen First Day of School by Anne Rockwell When I Miss You by Cornelia Maude Spelman Take a Kiss to School by Angela McAllister It’s Time for Preschool by Esme Raj Codell A Pocketful of Kisses by Audrey Penn – Select a special object from home that your child can take to school–like a book to share, or a small pillow or blanket for rest time. – Remember that separation is a process. Expect that your child (or yourself) will need time to feel comfortable with the new situation.
