LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 11-7-25
Hello LCIS Families,
November is here and it’s the season of gratitude. We are so grateful for our dedicated staff, our amazing students, and our partnership with you. Your involvement with your child’s education is an important part of helping them achieve success. As we head into the busy holiday season, we encourage you to take a few moments each day to celebrate your child’s growth and accomplishments—both big and small. Together, we can continue to foster a supportive and caring school community where every child thrives.
Upcoming
Mark your calendars for our annual Thanksgiving Lunch! Please join us on November 18th in the LCIS Gym. $5 per adult lunch and $3 per child lunch. LCSD students eat for free. 3rd grade lunch begins at 11:45, 4th grade lunch begins at 11:05, 5th grade lunch begins at 11:45, and 6th grade lunch begins at 12:05. Please let the office know if you have multiple children (from LCIS) that will be eating lunch together so that their teachers can plan accordingly. Also, please plan for your child to remain at LCIS following lunch as there are still lessons to be taught.
Celebrations
Our November Community Meeting is fast approaching! On Wednesday, November 19 at 8:05 in the LCIS Gym, our 4th graders will be hosting the community meeting. They plan on sharing original works of poetry. Please join us for this fun event!
Academics
ELA Update
- 3rd grade is wrapping up Unit 3: The Human Body and will be starting Unit 4: The Ancient Roman Civilization
- 4th grade is continuing their work in Unit 3: Poetry and learning about figurative language including metaphors and similes and about poetic styles
- 5th grade has begun Unit 4: The Adventures of Don Quixote
- 6th grade is continuing their work in Unit 2: Mysteries and Investigations
IXL Homework Update
We can see in the following chart that our students are spending more time working on math skills than ELA skills. Please encourage your child to work on both of these as we want to support their growth in both areas.

Attendance
When students come to school every day, they build good habits, stay on track with learning, and feel more confident. Every day in school makes a difference!
Cold Weather
Fall in the mountains brings cold weather! As a reminder, students at LCIS go outside for recess every day if the temperature is 10 degrees or above with a wind chill of 0 or higher. Please help your child come to school prepared to be outside in cold weather.

Healthy School Meals for All Election Results
Propositions MM and LL were passed by voters in the recent election, which allows the Healthy School Meals for All program to raise and retain additional funding. This means there will be no changes to our breakfast and lunch program this year. All students will continue to have access to a free, nutritious breakfast and lunch each school day.
Even though meals are free for all students, we ask that families continue to provide household income information by completing the Federal Economic Data Survey (FEDS Form). This information helps schools receive full federal funding, which directly supports meal programs, after school programs and other nutrition initiatives. Please contact Leslee Torsell ltorsell@lakecountyschools.net or Mary Jelf mjelf@lakecountyschools.net for more information on how to complete the FEDS form.
Do you need to change your child’s end of day plans? No problem! Simply call 719-293-6830, text 719-293-0964 or email our front office staff by 2pm.
Go Panthers!

Join us for Lake County High School’s fall play, The Crucible, on November 13th & 14th, at 7:00 p.m. and 15th at 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. Arthur Miller’s classic drama tells the gripping story of the Salem witch trials, exploring how fear, hysteria, and accusation can tear a community apart. As suspicion spreads, neighbors turn against one another, and truth becomes the first casualty. Don’t miss this powerful performance by our talented students! Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, available at the door.

Auditions for the LCHS Spring Production of Disney’s Frozen are open to 5th-12th Grade students this year. Please see the link for audition information and the musical handbook.
