LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 8-16-24
Hello LCIS Panthers!
What a fantastic first week of school! Our students were excited and engaged in the classroom and during their social times. They were thrilled to see their friends and reconnect with the LCIS staff. Our entire purpose is to help your children learn and grow, so it is always fabulous to finally get them back in the building. We couldn’t be more eager to begin another great school year! Thank you for sharing your children with us!
Our 5th grade students were able to visit the Public Library on Wednesday. What a great way to start the year!
We will have our first Cornerstone trip this week. Thanks to our amazing partners at GOL!, our 5th graders will be going to CMC on Tuesday, August 20, from 8:45 am until 1:45 pm. Please remember to send your student with a jacket, sneakers, and a water bottle.
Just a reminder; students will be using their chromebooks at school every day this year. Please help your child remember their charged chromebook every day. All homework will be completed on chromebooks this year, so it might be helpful to establish a routine of charging the chromebook before putting it in the backpack on Sunday evenings. We appreciate your help with this as we have a limited supply of loaner chromebooks. Students who do not bring a chromebook will be assigned paper worksheets and may get behind in class. Thank you again for your help and support in your child’s education. We need your partnership!
This week we will have out first Community Meeting of the 2024-2025 school year! Parents are welcome to attend this meeting on Wednesday, August 21 at 8:05 in the LCIS Gym. We will listen to Mrs. Talbot and Mrs. Cook share an overview of our expectations and celebrations for this year. We are excited to roll out the plan for acknowledging our students’ positive attendance and behavior here at LCIS. Go Panthers!
Please help! If your student was at Lake County Elementary School last year and no longer have any siblings currently (K-2) here, please return your Car Rider Pro tag to the front office.
The Lake County School Board of Education has two open seats and are looking to fill them. Are you interested in getting involved and potentially serving on the board? Please see the flier below for more information or reach out to Bunny Taylor at btaylor@lakecountyschools.net for more information.
Transportation: We hope that you have developed an after school action plan for your child to get home at the end of the day. If your plans for your child change, you must call the office before 2pm so that your child may receive a “pink note” explaining the changes. Please do not text or call your child or the classroom teacher to explain any changes. All changes must be made through our LCIS office. 719-486-6830.
School pictures are ready! The photo envelopes were sent home this week. To order online, log in to your account on mylifetouch.com or create an account using your student’s school ID number.
All families can also log on and order a FREE Digital SmileSafe card.
More about the Smilesafe program here.
ATHLETIC UPDATE:
We are excited to begin our fall sports season! Students in 6th grade are invited to participate in volleyball, football and cross country running. All Student Athletes are requited to have a physical, to have electronically signed all athletic forms during registration, and to pay a $25 fee.
Volleyball practice started on August 14, but your 6th grader is still welcome to join!
Football equipment hand-out will be Monday, August 19. The first day of practice is Tuesday, August 20.
Lake County School District Athletics has a new calendar system! Parents and students can look at a combined sport calendar, or a specific sport calendar. There are daily, weekly, or monthly view options. Those interested will also be able to sign up for schedule change notifications. Please click this link to explore this exciting new tool!

Dear Lake County Community,
The Lake County School Board has two openings. We will be appointing new members to the
board to complete the current terms that expire November 2025 at which point candidates may
choose to run for election.
If you are interested, please submit a letter of intention to the District Office (328 West 5th St.)
by September 4th at noon. You may address this letter to the Lake County Board of Education.
The letter should address four questions:
1) Why do you want to join the school board?
2) What perspective and experience would you bring to the school board?
3) What do you think are important issues facing the school district?
4) What is your vision for the Lake County schools? (I.e. where should we be five years from
now?)
We will review letters and conduct interviews at the regular meeting on Sept. 9th (5:30 PM
District Office/Zoom). We hope to seat new board members at the Sept. 23rd meeting and will
be sworn in at this time.
Who can be a school board member?
A school board member must be:
1) registered to vote in Lake County for 12 months before becoming a school board
member
2) a resident of Lake County
A school board member may not:
1) work full time for the school district
2) be convicted of any sexual offense against a child
What should you know about being on the school board of Education?
1) Meetings are twice a month that tentatively begin at 5:30 pm and run 2.5 to 3 hours for each
meeting
2) Members will be appointed to at least one committee
3) Members are eligible to be compensated for their time up to $450/month based on time
worked
4) Members attend an annual board retreat
Thank you for your interest. If you have any questions, please call Bunny Taylor (719) 293-
