WPE Parent Weekly Update 4/26/2020
Greetings, WPE Families!
We hope you receive this email well and are safe and healthy. We now know that schools will remain closed for the rest of this academic year. We are sad that we will not be together in person again, and understand and respect the Governor’s discretion in keeping us safe. We are in our thoughts each day!
*New learning packets will be handed out on Monday, April 27th from 8-4 at LCIS for the weeks of April 27 and May 4. In addition, spring pictures will also be available for pick up, if you purchased them this spring! The packets are available 24-hours under the LCIS awning, to be as convenient as possible. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have ANY questions or if you haven’t been able to get at-home learning activity packets. The younger your child is, the more guidance and structure they will need to be successful. Please break work into small time-chunks, follow a predictable schedule and celebrate successes! At-home learning is new for us all, and so please know that the two most important things you can do with your children are: read to/with and talk with your child as much as possible!
*This year we will be selling WPE yearbooks! Even though the year is ending differently than we expected, we still want to offer families the chance to buy a yearbook. Yearbooks are $25 and can be purchased through E-Funds (if you already have an account) or you can mail a check or money order payable to WPE (please write the student’s name and “yearbook” in the memo line) . You can mail the check or money order to:
Lynette or Rachael
West Park Elementary School
130 West 12th Street
Leadville, CO 80461
All yearbooks must be purchased by April 30th . We will put in an order and we will either arrange for them to picked up or mailed to your home.
*Please keep in close contact with your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns. If you have not yet heard from your child’s teacher yet, please feel free to email them (addresses can be found here). Please include the best way to contact you, in case we don’t have updated contact information for you. We want to keep up our relationships with you, as it is super important! You may also call the WPE office – 719-486-6890– if no one is in the office to pick up your call (we are trying to work from home as much as possible), please leave a message. We will return all calls within 24 hours.
*Lake County Build a Generation has also provided a form you can fill out if you are seeking volunteer opportunities or additional support. You can find these on their website at http://lcbag.org/
*Please reach out if we can help with anything during this challenging time. Christy Trujillo (719-427-0105) and Amber Borcyk (719-293-1751) are more than happy to help you navigate these changing times and situations!
*Student Belongings Based on the current executive order that Coloradans stay at home due to the presence of COVID-19 in the state we have determined that for now we will hold students’ belongings at their schools until the May 11th –May 12th pick up dates. If you or your student have an essential item that you need to pick up for a learning or health reason please call the front office and leave a message and we will get back in touch with you.
*Let’s build our WPE crew spirit during our time at home by sharing photos each week!
We will do our best to post as many photos as possible on the LCSD Facebook page, please email your submissions to Mr. Stenzel at mstenzel@lakecountyschools.net If submitting a drawing, please take a photo of the picture and email it to Mr. Stenzel.

Lexia Core5 Reading – supplemental reading skill practice that Kinder, 1st and 2nd grade students can use at home (parent/sibling help is only needed if the apple in the corner is red!)
Kids A-Z – fun reading games which students enjoy! Books are in English and Spanish!

Tutors are now available-in English and Spanish- for everyone in our community,
including k-12 students and families. Use the Community Support and Apoya
Comunitario tabs.
On the same page, Elementary Resources and High School Resources have links to
all kinds of resources from the CMC databases that are now free for public use.
If you haven’t yet had a chance to fill out the 2020 Census, please do so here! It is super important that everyone completes the Census for their household. 2020 US Census
*Lake County Build a Generation has also provided a form you can fill out if
you are seeking volunteer opportunities or additional support. You can find
these on their website at http://lcbag.org/
Lake County Public Health Agency, Office of Emergency Management, Wraparound,
and Solvista Health have partnered to establish a “pulse” survey to
monitor where our community is in dealing with all that is happening right now.
The link bit.ly/LakeSolvista takes you directly to the survey; it can be
toggled to Spanish from that landing page.
It takes about 3 minutes to complete, is anonymous, and informs how Solvista
and other agencies respond to our local community emotional health vibe.
Solvista will use themes from this survey to provide more targeted health
information and customize messaging and resources in response to how Lake
County respondents are feeling.
These messages/resources will be shared out across the Lake County community on
a weekly basis throughout the COVID-19 situation and recovery period, as
appropriate.
Solvista professional staff also monitor the survey responses to assess need
for crisis services.
The survey can be completed more than once by a respondent, as their feelings/attitudes
shift over time.
