LCES Weekly Update 9/2/22
LCES Families,
We have had an awesome week at LCES. Our second grade had a blast on their Cornerstone day. Here are some highlights from their time:
Our specials classes are also off to a great start. We have introduced STEM this year, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We also have our music, art, PE, and Library/Tech classes. Students are loving the work they are doing in these classes and are already learning so many new skills.
Cornerstone Days!
1st Grade will be having their Cornerstone day on Wednesday, September 7th. Kindergarten will have theirs on Tuesday, September 13th. Please be sure to check your child’s Thursday folder for more information on what to send with them for the day.
Acadiance Reading Testing:
We are starting our Acadiance Reading Testing (DIBELS) the week of September 6th. We test using this assessment three times a year and progress monitor monthly throughout the year in order to help us understand where your child is at with their reading and how we can best support their reading growth. Please make sure your child is in school this week so that we can test them. Thanks so much for your support with this!

It is full of tips and activities that you can do at home with your child to help build their reading skills.
HOWLs Update:
LCES has begun using HOWLs dollars to award good behavior. These dollars are awarded for any of our Habits of Work and Learning (HOWLs): Collaboration, Respect, Responsibility, Craftsmanship, Compassion, Perseverance, Curiosity, and Creativity. Starting next week, the school store will visit Crews in the morning so students can purchase items using their HOWLs dollars. Encourage students to show outstanding HOWL behavior.
September Attendance Challenge!
For the month of September we will be having our September attendance challenge. Our district attendance goal is 92%. The class with the best attendance for each grade level will receive an extra recess with Mrs. Lovely and Mr. Lenhard. Please try to send your student to school every day, unless they are too sick. We appreciate your help in reaching our 92% attendance goal!
Pick Up:
Thanks so much for helping our pick up process run smoothly. We ask that you please wait to pick up students until our 3:15 dismissal as we are in classes and learning until that time. If you do have an appointment and need to pull them out early, please notify the office before 2:30 so that we can have your student ready.
