| LCES Panther Cub Communication #3Week of August 21-25, 2023 | |
| Panther Cub Families! We have had a great week here at LCES. This week curriculum started in all classrooms and students and teachers are really getting into the swing of things here at school. Preschool students are in their first unit of study called “All About Me.” This week they will be learning more about the human body and how unique they are. Kindergarten students are learning Nursery Rhymes and Fables. These traditional rhymes help students learn new vocabulary and build phonemic awareness. 1st Grade are learning Fables and Stories. They are working to learn key elements of a story and work to acquire cultural literacy. 2nd Grade is learning about Fairy Tales and Tall Tales and have been talking about the lessons that these stories teach. We encourage you to ask your kids about this learning and see how they are growing more each day. Please join us for our first Principal Coffee Chat of the year! August 22, 2023 from 9-10 AM in the Library. This will be a time to learn about what is happening in the school and to give ideas and feedback toward our goals. Coffee and rolls will be served. Translation provided. Donations Needed: If you have pants or underwear that you can donate for students, we would really appreciate it. Sizes 6-10 are the most needed. Thanks! Thanks again for an awesome week! Katie Pongrekun, Principal LCES | |
| Staff of the Week Highlight! | |
| Each week this year in family communication, we will be highlighting a staff member in the building. If you want, please feel free to send emails, handwritten notes, or letters of encouragement to that staff member. Marissa Martinez: Marissa is one of our smiling faces that works in the front office. She grew up in Red Cliff and she owns her own personal business. She has been an infant teacher, preschool teacher, childcare director, and is now in her 2nd year of being a secretary. She is inspired daily by her family and she enjoys going riding on their Razor together. Marissa lives her life by quote, “The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they must be felt with the heart” (Hellen Keller). Send Ms. Marissa an encouraging note at mamartinez@lakecountyschools.net | |

| 2nd Grade Cornerstone:2nd Graders will be going to CMC for their Cornerstone lead by GOL! This is a time for students to build relationships with each other and teachers and to get outside for some great outdoor activities. We need one parent volunteer to join each class on Thursday. If you would like to volunteer, please call the front office to let them know. NWEA:Students in 1st and 2nd grade will take NWEA this week during Math. This will help us get a baseline for where students are at in their foundational math skills. Students are tested three times a year in order to see their growth and achievement in math. Kindergarten students will start taking this in the middle of the year. Drop off and Pick Up:Breakfast is served daily from 7:30-8:00. If you would like your child to eat breakfast, please drop them off by at least 7:45 daily to give them time to eat. Classes start at 8:00. If your child arrives after 8:00, they will need to stop in the front office to get a tardy slip. Pick up starts each day at 3:20-3:30. Thanks for picking up on time each day. If you need to change your child’s after school instructions, please call the front office before 2:30. If you call after 2:30, we can not guarantee that your change of plans can happen. Bus Routes: Bus routes for the 2023-2024 school year have been updated and posted to the school district website. Please click here if you have any questions regarding times for bus stop location or times. Thursday Folders:Be sure to check your student’s Thursday Folders. This is where we send home important information. Then be sure to return it by Wednesday the next week. HOWLs: LCES has begun using HOWLs dollars to award good behavior. These dollars are awarded for showing any of our Habits of Work and Learning (HOWLs): Collaboration, Respect, Responsibility, Craftsmanship, Compassion, Perseverance, Curiosity, and Creativity. Starting next week, the school store will visit Crews in the morning so that students can purchase items using their HOWLs dollars. Encourage your students to show outstanding HOWLs behavior each and every day. Reflection Zone: Starting next week, we will begin implementing a reflection zone during lunch recess. Reflection zones can be assigned to any student by any teacher. Students can be assigned a reflection zone if they engage in what we call habitual tier one behavior which can include: off task, sleeping during instruction, unkind words, unsafe choice, inappropriate language, minor physical contact, defiance/refusal, disrupting the classroom environment. Habitual means the same behavior occurred three times in a day even with teacher redirection and strategies. Students will complete a reflection form the day they go to the reflection zone. Teachers will contact parents/guardians the same day that your student was assigned a reflection zone. The student will bring home their reflection form for parents to review and talk with your student about their behavior. Please sign the form and return the next day with your student. | |
