LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 9-26-25
Hello LCIS Families,
What a beautiful start to autumn we’re having this year. The fall foliage is so lovely and makes every recess opportunity extra special.
As we transition into October, we recognize that it is National Anti-Bullying Month. As such, we will begin school-wide lessons from our social and emotional learning program, Second Step, on Anti-Bullying. Read more about it here:
Second Step Bullying Unit Begins Next Week!
In support of National Anti-Bullying Month, teachers will begin to teach their classes the Bullying Unit from Second Step, starting next Tuesday 9/30. These lessons will be taught weekly during morning crew for the next five weeks. Students will learn how to recognize bullying and harassment, stand up safely to bullying, and respond appropriately to harassment. This unit’s content helps students develop empathy, understand the impact of bullying and harassment on individuals and their communities, and examine social and environmental factors that contribute to negative behaviors as well as identify solutions for preventing those behaviors.
The goals of this unit include students being able to:
- Recognize common types of bullying
- Understand the potential negative impacts of bullying by taking the perspective of targets and bystanders
- Assess the risks and benefits of using different upstander strategies to respond to bullying under various circumstances
- Be an upstander by making a responsible decision in bullying situations
Be sure to talk with your child about what they’re learning in their Anti-bullying unit.
Celebrations:
Our 6th graders did a fabulous job hosting our first community meeting this past Wednesday. They had rewritten narrative sections from Roald Dahl’s book, Boy: Tales of Childhood and acted them out. Students included dialogue, sensory details, conflict, resolution, and humor.
The September Class Attendance Award went to Mrs. Baker’s Crew! They had the highest attendance rate of any crew this month at 98%. We know that attendance is an important factor in student achievement. Thanks for helping to get your child to school every day!
Upcoming!
LCIS Evacuation Drill: 9/29
On Monday morning, we will have a practice evacuation drill at LCIS. This practice allows students and staff to learn the expectations and routines in case we are ever faced with an actual crisis in which we had to leave the building. Our evacuation site is the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on the corner of 8th and James St. School staff have planned this evacuation with the police department and other crisis management officials.
3rd Graders to the Denver Zoo 10/2
To support our ELA Unit 2 study of animal classification, we will be visiting the Denver Zoo! This will help students to further their understanding of animals with real world exploration, as well as completing an animal classification journal and a writing piece following the trip.
Activity Goals:
- Students will classify animals based on their characteristics, such as whether they are vertebrates or invertebrates and into which animal group they belong.
- Students will observe animals to identify habitats, eating habits, and other behaviors.
Picture Retakes 10/7
Picture retakes will take place during the afternoon of Tuesday 10/7. Photos can be ordered online.using this link https://lifetouch.com/ If you prefer a paper copy of the order form, have your child ask their teacher or the main office for one.

IXL Homework Update
Students solved almost 40,000 questions on IXL this past week! Wow! Remember to have your child choose ELA and Math practice skills from their Recommendations. They can find these under the Learning tab. This will support them to learn and practice skills at their level and address any learning gaps they may have or push them to the next level.
Congratulations to this week’s IXL growth masters. These students made the highest level of growth in ELA over the past two weeks. Way to focus on your recommended practice skills! |
Attendance Update
Every absence—whether excused or unexcused—means missed instruction and valuable learning time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s any way we can support you. Every School Day Matters!
Communications: PowerHub Access
Starting today, 9/26/25, if you have not created a parent account to access PowerSchool / PowerHub, be on the lookout for an email. It will include your username and a temporary password so that you can log into PowerHub to access all of your child’s grades, attendance, fees, and other information. This is also the system that will allow you to receive and send direct messages to teachers.
Do you need to change your child’s end of day plans? No problem! Simply call 719-293-6830, text 719-293-0964 or email our front office staff (see above) by 2pm.
