LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 11/14/25
Hello LCIS Families,
I want to acknowledge the disruption to school this week caused by the threats made against our schools and our county government. It is always difficult when school is unexpectedly interrupted, but a threat like this affects us on a deeper and more emotional level. We know that events of this nature can create worry and uncertainty for students, families, and staff alike.
Our first priority is always the safety and well-being of our students and school community. As we move forward, we are focused on supporting one another and helping our students return to a sense of normalcy. School plays an important role in this: our routines, our relationships, and the predictability of the school day all help students feel safe, grounded, and cared for.
When students return, we will be ready to welcome them with the consistent structure and supportive environment that signals safety. Our staff will be attentive to students’ emotional needs and provide additional reassurance as they transition back into their day-to-day routines.
We also recognize that families may be processing this situation in different ways. If your child expresses concerns or seems unsettled, please let us know — we are here to partner with you and ensure they feel secure and supported.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and partnership during this difficult moment for our community. Together, we will help our students regain the stability and confidence they need to learn and thrive.

IXL Homework Update
One of the neat parts about IXL from the principal lens is that I can see when your child is working on their skills as I have access to something called IXL Live School. It was so wonderful to see so many students logging into IXL and working on their skills while we were out of the building these past couple of days. This shows the habit of responsibility. Great job, Panthers!

Attendance
When students come to school every day, they build good habits, stay on track with learning, and feel more confident. Every day in school makes a difference!
Cold Weather
Fall in the mountains brings cold weather! As a reminder, students at LCIS go outside for recess every day if the temperature is 10 degrees or above with a wind chill of 0 or higher. Please help your child come to school prepared to be outside in cold weather.

Healthy School Meals for All Election Results
Propositions MM and LL were passed by voters in the recent election, which allows the Healthy School Meals for All program to raise and retain additional funding. This means there will be no changes to our breakfast and lunch program this year. All students will continue to have access to a free, nutritious breakfast and lunch each school day.
Even though meals are free for all students, we ask that families continue to provide household income information by completing the Federal Economic Data Survey (FEDS Form). This information helps schools receive full federal funding, which directly supports meal programs, after school programs and other nutrition initiatives. Please contact Leslee Torsell ltorsell@lakecountyschools.net or Mary Jelf mjelf@lakecountyschools.net for more information on how to complete the FEDS form.
Do you need to change your child’s end of day plans? No problem! Simply call 719-293-6830, text 719-293-0964 or email our front office staff by 2pm.
Go Panthers!

Join us for Lake County High School’s fall play, The Crucible, on November 13th & 14th, at 7:00 p.m. and 15th at 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. Arthur Miller’s classic drama tells the gripping story of the Salem witch trials, exploring how fear, hysteria, and accusation can tear a community apart. As suspicion spreads, neighbors turn against one another, and truth becomes the first casualty. Don’t miss this powerful performance by our talented students! Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, available at the door.

Auditions for the LCHS Spring Production of Disney’s Frozen are open to 5th-12th Grade students this year. Please see the link for audition information and the musical handbook.
