LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 11-21-25
Hello LCIS Families,
It was wonderful to see our LCIS community come together this past week to share time and a meal. Many students told us that having Thanksgiving lunch with their family—or with a friend’s family—was a highlight of their week. Thank you for helping make their day so special by being part of it.
We would also like to recognize our amazing kitchen staff for preparing a delicious Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings, and our custodial team for their hard work in setting up and cleaning up for four well-attended lunches. This was no easy feat, and we are grateful for their dedication.
Events like this truly show what it means when we say, We are Crew!
Another special event this past week was our 4th grade led Community Meeting. Many students shared their original poems, which were both creative and entertaining. We’re so proud of the work they have done! We also extend congratulations to our Scholars of the Month for Gratitude. While gratitude is not an official Habit of Work and Learning (HOWL), we know how important it is in our daily lives. Demonstrating gratitude helps make our school a better, kinder place for everyone.
Now that Thanksgiving break is here, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the work our students have done during the first part of the year. Across our classrooms, teachers are encouraging students to persevere through challenging tasks and to give their best effort on every assignment.
Over the coming week, please take a moment to reflect with your child on their effort and growth. We know that their hard work truly makes a difference in their academic success.
Special Events the Week of December 1st!
- 6th graders will attend the Colorado Outward Bound School (COBS) in Leadville for the day on Wednesday, December 3rd. Students will leave LCIS around 8:40 and return around 2:20. They may either bring lunch from home or have a bagged lunch from school. This fun day will allow students to wrap up their first semester in a positive and collaborative way as they engage in winter activities. Look for the LCSD Caregiver Handout for COBS in a separate text. Your child will have also brought a copy home. The handout explains more about the day and outlines what your child should bring/wear for this winter day outside. *Note- students will have access to hot cocoa and indoor activities if it is too cold out.
- LCIS Winter Concert will take place on Thursday, December 4th at 6:30 at the LCHS auditorium. Students are expected to arrive at 6pm. Students in grade 3-5 will sing a winter song, and 6th grade band students will perform a song. Please join us in celebrating the sounds of the season for this wonderful winter event!
IXL Homework Update
Our Thanksgiving break is ten days long! That’s ten days away from the learning and practicing skills at LCIS. Over the break, please encourage your child to continue to spend time on IXL working on their recommended math and ELA skills. Also, vacation time is a great time to play board games (which can often reinforce math concepts) or snuggle up with a good book. I hope that you and your family can carve out some time for these fun and educational activities!

Attendance
We had some strong attendance this week at LCIS. With only three weeks of school in December, we truly hope that you can help your child be at school every day.
Congratulations to Jeffrey Lazalde Acevedo! They won our Attendance Challenge and received a free pizza from The Famous.
When students come to school every day, they build good habits, stay on track with learning, and feel more confident. Every day in school makes a difference!
Cold Weather
With the arrival of December comes colder temperatures. As a reminder, students at LCIS go outside for recess every day if the temperature is 10 degrees or above with a wind chill of 0 or higher. Please help your child come to school prepared to be outside in cold weather.
