LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 1-16-26
Hello LCIS Families,
We are so proud of our multilingual students! Many of them have completed the reading, listening, and speaking assessments on ACCESS. Next week students will complete the writing portion of the assessment. All students are taking their time and persevering through the tests. If you have a student who is taking these assessments, be sure to give them a big hug in celebration of all of their hard work!
Celebrations:
Our perfect attendance celebration was a success! 34 students earned the perfect attendance ice skating party at Huck Finn Ice Rink. The weather was perfect and the kids had fun learning to skate, playing hockey, and socializing with their friends.

Upcoming:
NWEA MAPS Assessments start next week:
LCSD uses the Northwest Evaluation Association’s Measures of Academic Progress (NWEA MAPS) to monitor student achievement growth three times a year. Next week students will begin taking the English Language Arts and Math assessments. Please talk to your child about doing their best on these assessments as it’s important for us to see where they are growing.
All School Community Meeting:
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, January 28th and join us for our next Community Meeting at 8:05 in the LCIS Gym. Our 6th grade students will host this event and be showing some of their work. We will also be celebrating our scholars of the month for collaboration.
4th Graders to the Mining Museum:
On Thursday, January 29th our 4th graders will go to the Mining Museum in Leadville as part of their Colorado History Unit. They have been studying the Colorado Gold Rush and visiting the museum will bring these areas of study to life!
LCIS Annual Scripps Spelling Bee:
On Tuesday, February 10th, LCIS will host its annual Scripps Spelling Bee. Students took home practice words over the winter break. Hopefully you’ve seen your child practicing their spelling words! Another way your child can practice is through the Word Club Spelling and Vocabulary app. Check it out! We will hold classroom competitions later this month to determine our finalists who will participate in our school-wide Bee.
IXL Homework
Our IXL homework expectations will continue this year with each student being asked to complete one-hour of ELA and one-hour of Math each week. Please insist that your child prioritizes their homework before dropping into other online activities. 120 minutes of homework a week works out to less than 20 minutes a day. We know your child can do it!
