LCIS FASO 3/12/21
Hello LCIS Families,
Thank you for participating in the Instruction Plan Feedback survey last week. The school board met on Tuesday this week to discuss the proposal to shift from a hybrid model to a full in-person model for students in grades preK-5. They were not ready to vote, but will be meeting again on Friday afternoon to finalize the decision. District wide communication will follow the decision. Regardless of which model we move forward with, we are always committed to providing the best educational experiences possible for your children.
This week we are leaning in to our habit of responsibility. Students who come to school without a completed health screener, will fill one out when they get to school. Students with completed screeners will be able to more quickly join their classroom. We’re also looking for students to show increased responsibility by continuing to bring in the following items every day: a water bottle, their Chromebook, and an extra mask in their backpack.
Spring break is quickly approaching! We’re all looking forward to some rest and relaxation. Please be sure to send your child to school every day this week as many teachers are working with students to complete their current ELA and math modules before break. We always utilize every in-person minute that we have with our students. Over the break, please encourage your child to play outside and remind them that they can still access their IXL account to practice math and their online library accounts, such as Epic Books and Sora.
Our annual Snowpalooza is scheduled this week for March 17th and 18th! Students will get to play outdoors during their Project Dream time using the equipment provided by GOL. They will snowshoe and Nordic ski and have hot cocoa during their 1 ½ hour scheduled time. We are so excited to continue this tradition with the help of our partners in GOL and Project Dream! Please send your student with a warm coat, gloves, snow pants and boots!
Sports Update: Like everything else this year, our sports seasons have been modified to help keep our students safe and healthy. We are so thankful that we have been able to allow our students at least a small window of participation in athletics this year. We have just completed a shortened girls’ basketball season and we are headed into the volleyball and girls’ soccer seasons. Thank you so much for supporting our student athletes – we are looking forward to and hoping for longer seasons next year!

Students who are interested in signing up for volleyball may do so by using this link. Since volleyball and soccer are running at the same time, the girls can play on both teams. The games won’t conflict since all of the soccer games will take place on Saturdays. The student athletes should choose one sport as their primary focus and communicate this decision to both coaches.
There will be an informational meeting for volleyball parents and athletes on Thursday March 18th at 5:00PM on google meet: meet.google.com/ihm-byjz-jsq Or dial +1 573-370-1349 PIN: 924 333 992#
Athletes; please make sure you have a valid physical and all athletic paperwork completed before practice starts on March 29th. If you have questions about your paperwork please email Alison Sprague : asprague@lakecountyschools.net
Students in Mrs. Martin’s virtual class participated in Read Across America Day last week right along with the in-person students! Some students dressed up as a Dr. Seuss character – Thing 1 joined the class last week. All of the students chose a Dr. Seuss character for their screen image in celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. We love that they celebrated and participated in our school activity!

Reading is awesome!
Mr. Damian, one of our Project Dream staff members, is reading “Hidden Figures” by Margot Shedderly to his 6th grade group. This book tells the story of three African-American women who worked as computers to solve problems for engineers and others at NASA. The book explains how these three historical women overcame discrimination and racial segregation to become three American achievers in mathematics, scientific and engineering history. This book is especially appropriate and pertinent for Mr. Damian – he is studying Engineering at the prestigious Dartmouth College (remotely)! We are so glad he is part of our team!
