LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 9-16-22
Hello LCIS Families!
This past week all of our students took a beginning of year writing assessment where they read a passage and then wrote an essay response. This writing assessment gives teachers and students a sense of their current level of writing and opportunity to create a writing goal so that students can increase their achievement level in writing. Weekly students have practice with reading a passage and writing a response as a part of their homework. Be sure to check your child’s homework packet to see what they are working on this week!
We will have Picture Retake day on Tuesday, September 20th! If your student did not have their photo taken during our Orientation Conference days, we will ask them to have their picture taken for their student records and for the yearbook. Photo packages are available to purchase, too! If you did not receive the order form, please call the LCIS office at 719-486-6830 or go to lifetouch.com and use this picture day ID: EVT7H9MJV.

The students in Ms. Page’s English Language Development classes created a beautiful mural to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The celebration is from September 15 to October 15 so that it includes the Independence Day observances in Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all on September 15th. This month long celebration also includes Chile’s Independence Day on September 18th. Some of the Hispanic Heritage Heroes shown above are: Selena, Cesar Chavez, Juan Herrera, Roberto Clemente, Sonia Sotomayor, Frida Kahlo, and Ellen Ochoa. We are so excited to learn more about their lives and contributions this month!
Here is another preview of the amazing artwork created by the students in Ms. Good’s art classes. Please join us on September 27th on the LCIS playground at 5:30 pm for some music and hot chocolate before taking a walk into the forest to view student artwork. Following the Forest Gallery Walk, you and your child are invited to visit classrooms and chat with teachers for the Open House portion of the evening. We’re excited to see you all there!
Did you know that Project Dream offers a weekly meal delivery for your kids? Any student in Lake County School District is eligible to enroll in this program regardless of their enrollment in Project Dream out of school programs. Each Thursday, they will drop a bag of food at your house for your child or children to have over the weekend. If you are interested, please register using this link: www.smartbellies.org/lake
LCSD has Family Connectors! These wonderful ladies provide support to the instructional program by enlisting parental involvement in students’ educational programs. They work with parents and students in identifying and achieving goals; accessing support services; and facilitating positive parent, school and student relationships. The connector/liaison works to bridge the communication between school and home . Our Family Connector/Liaison can help you: ● Facilitate parent-school communication; ● Facilitate community agency referrals; ● Encourage parent involvement in the school; ● Foster trust between parents and the educational community ● Foster higher academic achievement through collaboration with school personnel. The primary role of the Family Connector/Liaison is to empower parents to become active participants in the education of their children. There is a flier below with a photo, short biography and contact information for each of our connectors. Please know that you can call the school office or the family connector for any and all questions you may have!

If your student (6-12th grade) wants to attend a sporting event at LCIS, you must either attend the event with them, or you must call Alison Sprague at 719-486-6954 to get them on the Event Attendee List. Students in grades K-5 may attend athletic events at LCIS in the company of a parent or guardian. Students whose names are not on the Event Attendee List will be turned away at the door and will need to find a way home. RSVP’s must be called in to Alison before 2:30 pm the day of the event, or by 2:30 pm on Thursday if the event is on Friday or Saturday. Parents, thank you for your help on this. We are trying to encourage students to be positively engaged at these events, and we appreciate your partnership in that effort.
