LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 12-22-23
Dear LCIS Families:
Thank you for a great first semester! We hope you have a safe, restful and rejuvenating Winter Break. We will see all of you back at school bright and early on Monday, January 8th. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
The 3rd graders did an AMAZING job hosting our Community Meeting on Wednesday! They presented a play based on the fable Androcles and the Lion. We also honored our Scholars of the month for Craftsmanship. Our next Community Meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 10th led by our admin team to welcome back our students and give us all a fresh start on the new year and new semester.
We had lots of fun during our Holiday Spirit Week! Thank you for buying hats to support our Positive Behavior Rewards programs!
Student Progress Reports for Semester 1 will go home in backpacks on January 11th. We are so proud of the students at LCIS! Please call the office if you do not receive your child’s progress report or if you have any questions. Our next Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for March 20-21, but you are always welcome to contact the LCIS Staff! Please call 719-486-6830 or go to our website (www.lakecountyschools.net) to contact your child’s teacher by email.
LCIS is looking forward to its annual Spelling Bee! Our school-wide Bee will take place on Wednesday, February, 7th at 8:15 in the LCIS Gym. Spelling Bee word lists have been sent home. Help your child study for the first round of spelling, which will take place in their classrooms toward the end of January. The winner of the classroom Bee will participate in the school-wide Bee. We will also ask that our runner up speller prepare for the school-wide Bee in case the top speller is not available that day and they will get to participate. If you would like an additional word list, have your child ask their teacher for more words. You can learn more about the Scripps Spelling Bee here.
ACADEMIC UPDATE:
In Senor Jose’s Spanish class, students have been studying the verb “ser” in singular and plural ways, They have practiced by writing and reading, studying some handouts and using their Chromebook Quizlet application on Tuesdays. They have reinforced the use of masculine and feminine articles with writing exercises and analysis of given nouns in different sentences.
Students have had cultural Thursdays to study how Spanish people celebrate Christmas around the world. We listened to Silent Night in Spanish, and then learned about The Epiphany and its celebration. Senor Jose brought Mexican bread called “Rosca de Reyes” to share with his classes.
Have a wonderful, and well-deserved vacation. Feliz Navidad & Feliz Año
