LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 5-17-24
Dear LCIS Families:
Thank you so much for coming to the LCSD Annual Art Show! What an amazing turnout we had! The LCSD Art Department – Casey Curry, Amanda Good, and Sarah Saathoff – outdid themselves this year creating such a fun family event. There was face painting, shrinky dinks, flower potting, and sweet treats. We are so excited that we have already begun planning for next year’s event!
LCIS will be offering 6th graders the option to choose band as a class next year! Our 5th graders will continue to practice their instruments during their lunch recess one to two days per week. In order to prepare for next year, Mr. Corley has scheduled an instrument tryout night for students interested in joining band next year. Flesher Hinton Music Co. will be at LCIS this Wednesday, May 22, from 5-7 pm. Students who are currently enrolled in 4th or 5th grade are encouraged to come check out the available instruments and start getting excited about making music! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Corley at acorley@lakecountyschools.net
Hiring committee Elementary principal stakeholder feedback sessions
Are you interested in participating in the Lake County Elementary School principal hiring process? We are looking for stakeholders of staff, parents and community members to engage in this process. We anticipate running a process similar to that of the high school principal, in which candidates will rotate through interviews with different stakeholder groups and provide feedback. If you would like to be involved, we would appreciate that you use this form to sign up. We anticipate the stakeholder interview sessions to be held the week of May 13-17. We intend to follow this event up with a staff and community meet and greet of finalists that would be open to the public the week of May 20th.
It is time again for our 33rd Annual Cleanup-Greenup! On May 18th, volunteers will meet at Riverside Park in Salida and work together to clean up 152 miles of the Arkansas River watershed in preparation for spring runoff. We will also be hosting a Gear Up For Summer event in Riverside Park in Salida the same day, where we will give free PFDs to the first 50 youth. Other community organizations will be present, helping our community to gear up for a safe and fun summer. Please see the flier below for further details!
Sixth Grade End of Year Celebration
Believe it or not, the school year at LCIS is almost over!
The staff at LCIS are working hard to put together a very memorable 6th grade end of year celebration. Please join us on Thursday, June 13, at 2:15 pm in the LCIS Gym for our 6th Grade Celebration. Each student will get to play an active role in our celebration by making their own slide that has s baby, childhood and current picture! We will be working on these slides as a class in school.
Students will need to upload some photos that they would like to use for their slide to their LCIS Google Drive account. Once the photos are there, we can begin the process of designing their individual and amazing slide.
The directions for uploading photos to the Drive App went home with your 6th grader, and they are included below. Another option is emailing the photos to your school email account. Students may also bring photos to school and scan them.
If you have any questions or need help with this process please reach out to Ms. Miller jmiller@lakecountyschools.net
HOW TO UPLOAD PHOTOS

ACADEMIC UPDATE:
Library and Tech: All library books are due by June 3rd. Please ask your student if they have everything turned in. Notices about books have been going home with students.
In Spanish Language Class, students have been studying the months, the seasons, and Spanish countries where the language is spoken. They are researching information about a country and then giving a presentation to the class.
Cultural Thursday has been about “5 de Mayo” where students learn and discuss this important date in history for the country of Mexico with “La Batalla de Puebla”, the Battle of Puebla, as the focal point. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a holiday celebration of Mexican heritage.
Save the Date! Get ready for some spring singing! Mr. Corley and the LCIS students have been working hard on the music for the upcoming concert. We will have the LCIS Spring Concert at the LCHS Auditorium on Wednesday, June 12th. Students should arrive at 6 pm to get organized and the doors to the auditorium will open at 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!
Save the Date! The weather is warming and spring is springing! This means that our annual LCIS Field Day is right around the corner. This year we will host the LCIS Field Day events on Thursday, June 6th. This is a day in which students participate in a number of physical activities and games related to sports. Our students have been working hard all year to improve their physical fitness and this day is a fun culmination of both P.E. Classes and the 2023-24 school year. This is also a wonderful opportunity for students to elevate the Habits of a Learner as they demonstrate collaboration, compassion, respect, responsibility and perseverance while participating in these activities. Field Day will be held at the Lake County Community Field (across the street from LCIS). If the weather is bad, we will move field day activities into the gym and times will change.
Rockies Rock is coming soon! We hope you are doing well! We wanted to share that enrollment has opened for Rockies Rock Adventure Camp this summer! Families can enroll here. We will begin confirming enrollments on May 1st.
We hope to share this information with previous camp families, and also invite new folks to join. Please feel free to share this message across the community 🙂
