LCES Panther Cub Communication # 8
Week of September 25-29, 2023
Panther Cub Families!
We have had a great week at LCES! We wrapped up our DIBELS 8 testing this week for those who were absent last week. We will be sharing overall school results at our Principal Coffee Chat next Tuesday and individual student results with you during our fall conferences.
We will host our September community meeting for grades K-2 on Thursday, September 28th from 8:05-8:35. Parents are welcome to attend. We will be awarding a student in each crew for the habit of Collaboration.
On Thursday, September 28th, students in grades PK-2 will have Panther Day in specials classes. The theme for this month is Fall. This is a fun day where all the students and specials teachers come together to do activities and crafts related to the theme.
Parent Teacher Conferences PK-2:
Fall conferences for grades PK-2 are approaching and will be held on October 11th and 12th from 12:30-8:00. Please use the following link to sign up for your half hour time slot to meet with your child’s teacher. Please reach out to the front office if you have any questions about scheduling. We look forward to meeting with you to share with you how your child is doing. Students will be dismissed at 11:00 on these two days ( Preschool through 2nd Grade).
Principal Coffee Chat:
I will be going over school wide data and sharing more about DIBELS at our next Principal Coffee Chat on Tuesday, September 26th from 9-10 AM or from 6-7 PM in the library and answering any questions families have about how we gather data and use data to help our instruction. Rolls provided in the morning, cookies in the evening. We hope holding this at two times will allow each of you an opportunity to attend. Translation provided.
NED Show:
As you know we recently hosted an all school event called The NED Show. We trust your student was encouraged by the show which inspires everyone to become Champions at school and in life!
The NED Show yoyos are still available for purchase to support the free show and message. The sale will run from September 18-28. The order form is below or we have additional copies available. Please use cash or check made out to LCES. If your student has already purchased a yoyo, here is an important link to help them get off to a good start with proper string length adjustment, click here.
Additionally, here are a couple of our favorite follow up home resources from the Then NED Show website. You may want to use these with your child as they are designed to go hand in hand with the program.
If you’d like additional resources, they are available here.
And don’t forget to ask your student what they learned in the show about Never giving up, Encouraging others and Doing your best!
Safety
Student and staff safety is our top priority in the Lake County School District. We partner very closely with local agencies in Lake County–including the Lake County Office of Emergency Management, Leadville Police Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office–on our safety efforts. Every fall we provide information to parents on our school safety practices. Links to this information is here. If you have any questions, please reach out to Bunny Taylor at btaylor@lakecountyschools.net (719-486-6805-office/719-293-0738-cell) or an administrator in your school building.
Thank you all again for a great week. Feel free to reach out to me any time with questions, concerns, or celebrations.
Thanks,
Katie Pongrekun
Principal, LCES

Staff of the Week Highlight! |
Each week this year in family communication, we will be highlighting a staff member in the building. If you want, please feel free to send emails, handwritten notes, or letters of encouragement to that staff member.
Julia Frattolin- 2nd Grade Teacher
Ms. Frattolin is originally from Canada and grew up in South Carolina. She graduated from College of Charleston with her degree in Elementary Education and this is her third year teaching 2nd grade. She is inspired daily by watching students grow- academically and emotionally, and building community in her classroom together as a Crew. Her dream vacation would be an all inclusive resort somewhere tropical. When Ms. Frattolin isn’t teaching 2nd grade, she enjoys reading and going on walks. Thank you for all you do, Ms. Frattolin!
Send Ms. Frattolin an encouraging note at jfrattolin@lakecountyschools.net
K-2 Specifics |
Attendance: Every week that students have perfect attendance they are awarded 5 HOWLs dollars for responsibility. As part of our LCES Work Plan, we have a school attendance goal of 94% for the year. When students are here they are able to learn, when students learn they are set up for lifelong success. This week our attendance percentage by grade was as follows:
- Kindergarten: 85%
- 1st Grade: 92%
- 2nd Grade: 90%
Thank you for bringing your children to us each and everyday.
Please remember that school starts promptly at 8:00 and students should be in their classrooms at this time. We still have a high number of students who have been tardy each day. Breakfast is served daily for all students from 7:30-7:55. If you want your child to eat breakfast, please remember they need to be here early enough each morning to finish eating by 8:00 to get to class on time. Thanks so much for your help with this.
