Mrs. Compean- Psylocke Dempsey (not pictured)
Mrs. Kissell- Dulce Puebla Aparcio
Mrs. Lenhard- Kinsley Stamps
1st Grade:
Ms. Kuehl: Blake Green
Mrs. Duncan: Seneca Jump
Ms. Rapke: Ryan Castillo Hernandez
2nd Grade:
Mrs. Regan: Sutton George
Mrs. Saunders: Salvador Ramirez Perez
Ms. Frattolin: Josel Suarez Gutierrez
Students in PK-2nd grade had a great time in specials on Thursday for their Panther Day. Be sure to ask your child about what they did.
Last Friday, on our staff Professional Development day, teachers in grades K-2 worked with Amplify in order to learn about the new instructional resources available for small group instruction. This week, they immediately started implementing this learning and are using these resources during our intervention time. Every day, every student is getting targeted instruction in literacy based on their DIBELS 8 testing scores. Teachers will progress monitor, or do a check in test with students, every three weeks to ensure that students are growing in the skills they need to help them become successful readers.
October Count and Attendance:
Every year, during the first week of October, we have October count. This is how we report to the state how many students are attending LCES in order to receive funding. This is a week where attendance is very important because if students aren’t here, we can’t count them in our attendance. Thanks for helping us with this by ensuring your student is in school every day this week.
Parent Teacher Conferences PK-2:
Fall conferences for grades PK-2 are approaching and will be held on October 11th and 12th from 12:30-8:00. Please use the following link to sign up for your half hour time slot to meet with your child’s teacher. Please reach out to the front office if you have any questions about scheduling. We look forward to meeting with you to share with you how your child is doing. Students will be dismissed at 11:00 on these two days (Preschool through 2nd Grade). There will be NO afternoon bus for preschool students.

Safety
Student and staff safety is our top priority in the Lake County School District. We partner very closely with local agencies in Lake County–including the Lake County Office of Emergency Management, Leadville Police Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office–on our safety efforts. Every fall we provide information to parents on our school safety practices. Links to this information is here. If you have any questions, please reach out to Bunny Taylor at btaylor@lakecountyschools.net (719-486-6805-office/719-293-0738-cell) or an administrator in your school building.
Thank you all again for a great week. Feel free to reach out to me any time with questions, concerns, or celebrations.
Thanks,
Katie Pongrekun
Principal, LCES

Staff of the Week Highlight! |
Each week this year in family communication, we will be highlighting a staff member in the building. If you want, please feel free to send emails, handwritten notes, or letters of encouragement to that staff member.
Ms. Nancy- #137 Preschool Teacher
Ms. Nancy grew up in Mexico and has her AAS degree in Early Childhood Education. Her family took a road trip from the border of Canada to the border of Tijuana in one week! Her inspiration is her parents because they’re always there for her and her family. Her son also inspires her daily because he makes her feel strong every single day. She would love to travel to Santorini, Greece and Paris someday. Thank you Ms. Nancy for all you do!
Send Ms. Nancy an encouraging note at nalopez@lakecountyschools.net
Ms. Katie- #137 Preschool Teacher
Ms. Katie grew up in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She served in the Air Force in Security Forces. She has her AA in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Early Education. One interesting fact about Ms. Katie is that she has jumped out of an airplane! Ms. Katie is inspired by people who do good things and her dream vacation would be “somewhere on a beach”. Thank you for all you do, Ms. Katie!
Send Ms. Katie an encouraging note at kspeckman@lakecountyschools.net
