Hello Families,
Thank you all so much for coming to conferences this past week. It was great having so many families in the building and connecting with teachers and staff. Please reach out to your child’s teacher at any time if you have questions regarding your child’s academic progress. One of the best ways to reach out to your child’s teacher is through email.
Lockdown Drill
On Wednesday, October 18th, we will have our first lockdown drill of the school year. Teachers will be working with students ahead of time to practice and talk through why we do lockdown drills. Please see the attached letter for more information. Link to letter.
Wear Orange on the 18th
In honor of National Unity Day to focus on Kindness and anti-bullying, send your student to school in orange on Wednesday the 18th. This ties into our work all month on kindness. When you are in the building, be sure to check out our kindness challenge wall. It is starting to fill up with all our kindness tickets. Thanks for talking to your child about the importance of showing kindness to everyone!
Snow!
As the snow starts to fall, please remember to send your child with boots and snow clothes every day. Also, please make sure that you put your child’s name on each item in permanent marker. Our lost and found is starting to grow already. Be sure to check it while you are here for conferences.
Parent Volunteer Opportunities PK-2:
We are looking for parents (1-2) at each grade level PK-2 who would be interested in being part of our Family Fun Night/Parent Engagement committee. If you are interested in this work, you would be asked to help plan events for families to be a part of. Please reach out to Katie Pongrekun at kpongrekun@lakecountyschools.net if you are interested in this opportunity.
Thank you all again for a great week. See you all at conferences this next week!
Thanks,
Katie Pongrekun

Staff of the Week Highlight!
Each week this year in family communication, we will be highlighting a staff member in the building. If you want, please feel free to send emails, handwritten notes, or letters of encouragement to that staff member.
Tanya Lenhard- Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Lenhard grew up in Leadville and this is her 24th year in education, with 22 of those years being at LCSD. She has held various positions such as classroom teacher, preschool director, and literacy coach. Mrs. Lenhard is inspired by her own children and the children in her classroom. She says “They are my daily inspiration but I also love a good sports story, movie, or event”. There’s two places on Mrs. Lenhard’s bucket list to visit, Greece and Scotland. While not teaching Kindergarten, Mrs. Lenhard enjoys reading, skiing, hiking, and kayaking. Thank you for all you do for our students and community, Tanya!
Send Mrs. Lenhard an encouraging note at tdlenhard@lakecountyschools.net
