LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 11-11-22
Hello LCIS Families!
We wanted to take a moment to honor all of our Veterans today as it is Veterans Day. Thank you for your service!
🦃 Please join us for our annual Thanksgiving Lunch on Wednesday November 16th! 3rd grade lunch begins at 10:50, 4th grade lunch begins at 11:20, 5th grade lunch begins at 11:50, and 6th grade lunch begins at 12:20. Family members, please sign in at the office when you arrive and bring either cash or a check to pay for lunch. The cost of the meals is $3 for students and $4.50 for adults. Families, please plan to have your child remain in school following lunch as learning activities planned for the afternoon.
STAR Progress Monitoring is happening next week. Please remind your child to bring their charged chromebooks to school! Thank you! The STAR Assessment monitors your child’s growth in the following areas: Foundational Skills, Literacy, Informational Text and Language Acquisition. Talk with your child about their upcoming assessment and the goal that they have set for themselves. Remember that reading leads to strong readers! Encourage your child to read every day and if possible, find time to read with them, too!
On Thursday morning LCIS will hold a Lock Down drill. You may notice law enforcement’s presence at our building during the time of the drill. More information about the drill will be sent in a separate email that will arrive today.
Our social worker, Karly Menchen, has been building an LCIS Community Clothing Closet for our students. If a student needs an item, it’s Karly’s goal to be able to provide that item to the child. If you would like to donate gently used or new items to the Community Clothing Closet please bring them to our main office. Karly is still looking for pants, short/long sleeve shirts, socks, winter hats, gloves, boots, and snowpants. Thank you for your support! If you would like to contact Karly directly, please email her at kmenchen@lakecountyschools.net or call her at 719-293-4350.
October’s attendance challenge has wrapped up! The following crews had the highest attendance for the month and received a pizza party celebration: 6th grade Mr. Burns and 4th grade Ms. Warner!
Our next attendance challenge will combine the months of November and December. Any student with an attendance of 95% or higher will participate in the celebration on December 15 at the end of the day. It will be a cookie decorating activity!
It’s the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest this weekend! Children aged 8-13 can participate in the gym at the Lake County High School in this fun contest on Sunday. Registration begins at 8am and the contest begins at 9am. Good luck, Panthers!
Are you worried about paying for your energy bills this winter? The Lake County Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) may be able to help. Call Nancy Contreras at 719-427-0969 for more information and/or to schedule an appointment.
🌲The Tree of Sharing is available to help families who are struggling financially and have children under the age of 18. If you need some help during the holidays, please scan the QR code on the flier below. Registration ends today, so do this now as no late registrations will be accepted.
