LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 10-17-25
Hello LCIS Families,
Thank you so much for taking the time to attend parent–teacher conferences this week. We truly value the opportunity to connect with you and discuss your child’s progress. These conversations are an important part of building a strong partnership between home and school, and we appreciate your engagement, questions, and insights.
When we work together—sharing what we each see and supporting one another—we create the best possible environment for your child to learn and grow. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference, and we’re grateful for your continued partnership in helping every student reach their full potential.
Thank you again for your time, care, and collaboration. We’re excited to continue this great work together as we move into the next part of the school year!
Cold Weather
Fall in the mountains brings cold weather! As a reminder, students at LCIS go outside for recess every day if the temperature is 10 degrees or above with a wind chill of 0 or higher. Please help your child come to school prepared to be outside in cold weather.
Academics
Mathematics magic is taking place across our school! In grades 3-5 all of our students are mid-way through Unit 2 of the Bridges Math curriculum.
- 3rd graders are working on multiplication and understanding situations when multiplication could be used.
- 4th graders are also working on multiplication scenarios and beginning division. They are learning about the relationship between these two operations.
- 5th graders are learning how to add and subtract fractions with uncommon denominators.
Students in 6th grade are wrapping up unit 3 in Reveal Math.
- They have been learning how to solve problems involving ratios and rates, and finding the unit rate to help them determine solutions.
Celebrations
Halloween is just around the corner! We will host a Healthy Halloween Celebration at school for our students on Thursday, October 30. Students are welcome to wear their costume for the entire school day. Costumes must be school appropriate and therefore fake weapons, face masks and face paints are not allowed.
We will begin the day with a whole school costume parade starting in the LCIS Gym around 8:05. Families are welcome to attend.
At LCIS we strive to maintain that all of our celebrations are healthy and inclusive. As such, please do not send any food with your child with the expectation that it will be shared with others. If your child does bring food to school, it will be returned home with them at the end of the day. If you would like to send a little Halloween prize to be shared you may, but this is not expected. Little prizes may include pencils, erasers, stickers, etc..
Students who are not participating in the activities will have the option of joining in fun alternative activities.
HOWL Reward
Each grade level has the opportunity to earn a quarterly HOWL Reward by following classroom expectations and exhibiting the targeted Habits of Work and Learning. This quarter we celebrated students who showed Respect and Responsibility.
Below, the 5th graders are enjoying time outside at the Community Field playing with the parachute.
IXL Homework Update
Hopefully you were able to chat with your child’s teacher about IXL during conferences. We are asking that each student works to complete 60 minutes of Math and 60 minutes of Reading. We are already seeing great growth from students who are focusing on their recommended skills when they’re on IXL.

Attendance
When students come to school every day, they build good habits, stay on track with learning, and feel more confident. Every day in school makes a difference!
Communications:
From the Calendar Committee: We hope during parent-teacher conferences everyone had a chance to check out the two potential calendars for next year. If you did not already complete the Final Calendar Survey, to share your opinion, please do so by following this link: https://forms.gle/vLYi4YpwLJ1cHjc57. The survey will be open until 12:00pm on October 20th.
