Especially now with the icy conditions, we want to ensure our parking lots and school is the safest it can possibly be. Thanks for your cooperation! Do you know what BOOST is? Boost is an online learning literacy platform connected to our CKLA Amplify curriculum. This program is tailored for each student and the specific literacy skills they need to target. To log on to BOOST at home, your child will need their Clever badge which is located on the back of their yellow Thursday folder. Download the Clever app to your phone or tablet to get started on BOOST at home! Just 10 minutes a day is shown to significantly improve a student’s literacy skills. If you need help logging on or need an additional Clever badge, please reach out to your child’s teacher. HOWLs Challenge: We have a new HOWLs challenge for quarter 2! Preschool Specifics | |
Hello Center Families, This week was filled with more fun learning at The Center. This week in classrooms I saw enjoyment with outdoor play, special care for animals in our vet centers, elaborate block building, and joy when putting together floor puzzles. Our teachers are focused on student needs and child learning. The Center is a great place to be! We hope to see you all at our Thanksgiving lunch next week. Please see the attached fliers. Preschool families should plan to arrive at the listed check in time on the flier. All families should enter the main LCES building, check in at the front table, and pay for meals. Then you will want to go down to your child’s preschool classrooms and wait with them until it is time to transition together for lunch in the LCES gym. Please reach out to the front office with any questions or if you would like to set up having siblings eat together at a specific scheduled lunch block. Turkey lunch – Yum! The sun is nice to see, but winter is upon us. Please send your child’s winter clothing every day. We want all our preschoolers to be able to fully enjoy our outdoor recess time and staying warm and dry helps with that. Also, it is very helpful to front office staff if families and visitors remove hats and hoods upon entry into our building. This makes it easier to view in our cameras who is at our doors. We appreciate everyone’s help with this! In this season of gratitude, I continue to be thankful for all of you and the children you bring into our doors each day. Enjoy your weekend – see you Monday! Tanya Lenhard – PreK Director Office phone: 719-486-6928 Cell: 719-293-1055 tdlenhard@lakecountyschools.net Classroom and Curriculum Updates: Home to School Connection: CKLA home to school connection tip:. On Wednesday, 11/20, our students will expand their learning about animals with a visit from Jen Windorski from the Department of Wildlife. All of our learners will get to use their senses to learn about different animals that live in Colorado. We are looking forward to such an exciting week! This week ask your child to observe animals that she/he sees everyday. It could be a pet or a familiar wild animal like a bird or squirrel. Talk about the name of the animals. How big is it? What color is it? How does it move? What does it eat and drink? Kelly Horning Assistant Director Office Phone: 719-486-6927 khorning@lakecountyschools.net Family Engagement Corner: It is almost THANKSGIVING and time to celebrate with Friends and Family! Check out the following article on how to help your Preschooler learn about the meaning of Thanksgiving and how you can celebrate it together! Why is Thanksgiving Important? Teaching Children about ThanksgivingThanksgiving is a special holiday: a whole day focused on spending time with loved ones and being thankful, without much of the commercialism that has crept into many other holidays. But before you pull up to the table to enjoy your delicious Thanksgiving feast, consider the opportunities this day presents to teach children about the important values of Thanksgiving, such as thankfulness, gratitude, and family. How to Teach Children the Meaning of Thanksgivinghttps://www.brighthorizons.com/resources/article/thanksgiving-a-time-for-familyHere are a few tips to teach and model important Thanksgiving lessons during the holiday:Talk about family traditions and tell stories: If your celebration involves multiple generations or multiple families, talk about traditions, “the good old days,” and your own childhood. Stories teach children about life and history.Talk about your Thanksgiving Feast: Talk to children about where food comes from and how it was prepared. Everyone can share what their favorite food is and why.Be thankful: Focus on the things you are thankful for; ask everyone at the table to say what they are thankful for or make a list of what your family is thankful for.Share and donate: Thanksgiving is a celebration of sharing and abundance. Develop a tradition of sharing with those who have less and involve children in contributing to a food shelter or other charities. This can help children to be thankful for what they have and learn the importance of helping others.Create something for Thanksgiving together: Whether you’re cooking with your children or creating a craft, involving kids in the preparation or an activity is a great way to celebrate and enjoy family time. Don’t worry if the potatoes have a lump or two—the memory-making experience is worth it.Have fun: Sometimes children spend long hours at the kids’ table while grown-ups talk and talk. Be sure, fun family activities and enjoying one another is a top priority on Thanksgiving. From our Center Family to yours, however you spend your day, we hope you have a safe, healthy, and delicious Thanksgiving with family, friends, and neighbors! Hope to see lots of you at the “LCES Thanksgiving Feast” next week! Rhonda H.
