LCIS SNSO 4-5-20
Hello LCIS Families,
I hope you are all well. I miss seeing your children and hearing the buzz of learning in our building. I hope that you were able to pick up a learning packet for your child this past week. While I know that these packets do not replace the rigor of daily learning in school, I do hope that they are providing engaging opportunities for your child to continue studying and practicing his/her grade level skills. We will not be collecting these packets as we are working to minimize our interactions and follow the recommendations for social distancing.
In a recent communication from the school district you learned that the school closure has been extended through April 30 and that it is likely that schools will remain closed through the end of the year. For the duration of the closure we plan to provide learning packets for all LCIS students every two weeks. We would also like to offer online learning opportunities for every LCIS student. Many of our LCIS students already have a device at home that they are using to access learning sites such as LEXIA or Dreambox. I am reaching out today to ensure that all of our students have access to a device.
For LCIS students who are in need of a device, we would like to offer the use of a Chromebook for the remaining time that we are out of school. The use of technology for distant learning, like a paper learning packet, is optional and not required. The assignments completed will not be graded. However, by completing assignments and tasks online, your child will have more opportunities to engage with his/her teacher as the teacher will be able to give feedback and support to each student in their learning.
For students in need of a device we are offering Chromebook distribution at LCIS on Monday, April 6th from 8 am – 2 pm and on Tuesday, April 7th, from 3-7 pm. We will distribute the Chromebooks in a similar fashion to the paper packets. We ask that you remain in your car and an LCIS staff member will bring you a Chromebook. These Chromebooks are only available for LCIS students in grades 3-6. Each Chromebook will be released only to the parent or guardian so that they may sign The Chromebook Use Agreement. If you have any problems with your chromebook, please email helpdesk@lakecountyschools.net.
The following Monday, April 13, we plan to distribute the next two weeks worth of paper packets at LCIS for students in K-6. For grades 3-6 the paper packet will match the learning opportunities provided online. Distribution of packets will take place in our “new normal” way by having staff members bring you the packets while you remain in your car. If your child is engaged with learning online, you will not need to pick up a paper packet, although you may pick it up if you’d like.
By offering online learning opportunities we hope to provide more interaction between students and their teachers during this time of social isolation. Connecting with our students is very important to us and we hope to continue having a strong relationship with your child.
