LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 8-30-24
Hello LCIS Panthers!
We have had a great week at LCIS. Two grade levels were able to attend their cornerstone field trips, all of our students completed the NWEA test, we had our first fire drill of the year, and we had 30 shout outs acknowledging the positive things happening at LCIS!
Remember that this weekend is a four-day weekend with Monday being the Labor Day holiday. We will see your students back at LCIS on Tuesday. Enjoy the long weekend!
Thanks for sending your student to school!
September marks the start of our monthly HOWL focus. This month we are focused on the Habit of Responsibility. The targets connected to this habit are, “I take care of myself, others, and our environment.” and “I take ownership of my learning, my actions, and my mistakes.”
Our students show responsibility every day by taking their Chromebooks back and forth from school to home. All students need their Chomebooks at home so that they can complete their homework using the IXL website. This week’s IXL data shows that we tripled the amount of questions answered and tripled the amount of skills mastered by students since last week. Awesome work, Panthers!
Our third graders went to Kendrick Park on Thursday with GOL! They had beautiful weather for their team building activities and outdoor lunch. Such a great way to start the school year! |
Our 3rd graders will begin to take their chromebooks home next Thursday, September 5th. We are looking forward to seeing great gains in their IXL math and ELA data!
On Tuesday and Wednesday (9/3 – 9/4) of next week there will be road construction on 6th street near Washington Street. The work is planned before/after school drop-off/pick-up times, but there may be some congestion. Please be alert for different traffic patterns and any pedestrians navigating around the construction areas.
This coming week our first 6th grade class will attend an overnight trip to the Colorado Outward Bound School (COBS). Mrs. Potts’s class will leave for COBS on Wednesday morning at 8:30 am and return to LCIS at the end of the day on Thursday. While there, the students will be able to participate in team building activities and also enjoy some traditional camping activities such as sleeping in tents and eating s’mores! Please review the packing list that your child brings home to ensure that they have the necessary equipment for this adventure. Thank you to GOL and COBS for allowing our students to have this amazing experience!
Project Dream starts on Tuesday! The Project Dream Calendar can be found online here: https://www.lakecountyschools.net/program-registration/. If you have any questions, please contact Blanca Rodriguez at 719-293-0115 or brodriguez@lakecountyschools.net
It’s going to be a great week!

The Lake County School Board has two openings!
We will be appointing new members to the board to complete the current terms that expire November 2025 at which point candidates may choose to run for election. If you are interested, please submit a letter of intention to the District Office (328 West 5th St.) by September 4 th at noon. You may address this letter to the Lake County Board of Education.
The letter should address four questions:
1) Why do you want to join the school board?
2) What perspective and experience would you bring to the school board?
3) What do you think are important issues facing the school district?
4) What is your vision for the Lake County schools? (I.e. where should we be five years from now?)
We will review letters and conduct interviews at the regular meeting on Sept. 9th (5:30 PM District Office/Zoom). We hope to seat new board members at the Sept. 23rd meeting and will be sworn in at this time.
Who can be a school board member? A school board member must be:
1) registered to vote in Lake County for 12 months before becoming a school board member
2) a resident of Lake County
A school board member may not:
1) work full time for the school district

What should you know about being on the school board of Education?
1) Meetings are twice a month that tentatively begin at 5:30 pm and run 2.5 to 3 hours for each meeting
2) Members will be appointed to at least one committee
3) Members are eligible to be compensated for their time up to $450/month based on time worked
