LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 9-6-24
Hello LCIS Panthers!
What an interesting week we’ve had at LCIS! As you may have heard, the fiber optics cable was accidentally cut and we lost our WiFi and phone connections throughout the building on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our Information Technology (IT) Team worked quickly to find a fix and we are back online. Many thanks to them!
Shout out to our teachers who needed to make a quick shift with the lack of technology in their classrooms this week. It was great to see teachers and students roll with the changes so smoothly.
The loss of WiFi caused a delay in our DIBELS testing schedule and therefore we will continue and complete our DIBELS assessments next week. This reading assessment allows our teachers to identify skills that have not yet been learned by students and provide targeted instruction to them. Please be sure that your child is reading every day at home. Students in this age range also still love to be read to! Consider holding onto or adding back that cherished tradition with your child/ren.
What are the homework expectations for my LCIS child?
- All students are encouraged to complete 120 minutes of IXL weekly.
- 60 minutes should be ELA practice
- 60 minutes should be Math practice
- Chromebooks will need to go home and back to school daily
Our current IXL data shows that we are making progress toward our homework goal, but we’re not quite there yet! Please insist that your child work on their IXL skill daily.
| Check out our attendance percentage averages from this week. Way to go 6th grade for having the best attendance this week! Many thanks to our families for prioritizing school every day! |
The Habits of Work and Learning (HOWL) focus for September is Responsibility. The targets connected to this habit are, “I take care of myself, others, and our environment.” and “I take ownership of my learning, my actions, and my mistakes.”
Mrs. Potts’ Crew had a great time at the Colorado Outward Bound School (COBS) on Wednesday and Thursday this week. While there, students participated in team building activities, braved the high ropes course, had a campfire and ate s’mores, and slept under tarps. A good time was had by all!

This coming week our final two 6th grade classes will attend an overnight trip to COBS .
- Ms. Probst’s class will leave for COBS on Monday morning at 8:30 am and return to LCIS at the end of the day on Tuesday.
- Mrs. Martin’s class will leave for COBS on Wednesday morning at 8:30 and return to LCIS at the end of the day on Thursday.
- Please review the packing list that your child brings home to ensure that they have the necessary equipment for this adventure.
- Thank you to GOL and COBS for allowing our students to have this amazing experience!
