LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 5-16-25
Hello LCIS Panthers!
Our students have wrapped up their DIBELS reading assessments this week. Across the building we have seen students making strong growth in their accuracy, fluency and comprehension with their reading. Great work, Panthers!
Next week students will be taking their NWEA tests for ELA and Math. Students use their Chromebooks for these tests, so please help your child remember to bring their charged Chromebook to school every day next week. We are looking to see how much growth students have made from the beginning of the year until now, so please encourage your child to do their best on these assessments!
On Monday, 6th grade students will visit LCHS in the morning. They will take a tour of the school, meet some of their teachers, and sign up for their elective classes. Students will need their charged Chromebook for this visit. Please help them be prepared!
The 6th grade day of nature-based learning at Hayden Meadows has been canceled due to the predicted snow. The 6th grade team is planning an alternate activity. Watch for more information soon!
It is finally here! The Awesome Attendance Award trip to the Colorado Rockies will take place on Thursday, May 22. There were a few seats available for a drawing after CMAS testing for students who showed Perseverance during the assessment. LCIS is taking almost 50 students to the game. Way to go Panthers! We are excited to celebrate attendance and academics with our students!
Our 3rd graders were able to go to Hayden Meadows on Tuesday – the weather was great! Thank you to GOL! and C4 for facilitating and leading nature based learning activities for our students!
We are looking forward to our upcoming Community Meeting on May 28th. As usual, we will hold our celebration in the LCIS gym at 8:05 am. The assembly will be led by our administrative team, Mrs. Talbot and Mrs. Cook, so that they can acknowledge the amazing academic growth shown by our students this year. We will also have some special attendance awards for students who have made great efforts to come to school this year. This Community Meeting will be a really special way for us to celebrate our students. We hope you are able to come!
Has your child brought home an item that doesn’t belong to them? Accidents happen! If you see something come home with your child that you know isn’t theirs, please call the school to report the item and have your child bring it back. It is very likely that it belongs to another student who is sad that it has gone missing.
Speaking of missing items, our Lost and Found is once again filled to the brim! You are welcome to swing by LCIS to look through the items in the hope of reuniting your child with their missing item. We have coats, gloves, sweatshirts, water bottles, all kinds of things!
Our students are busily preparing for our end of year Celebration of Learning on June 11th. Mark your calendars for this important event! We will begin at 6pm in the LCIS Gym with a welcome followed by vocal performances by students in grades 3-5 and concluding with visits to the all grade level classrooms to listen to students share their learning. We hope to see you there!
In addition to our Celebration of Learning, we will also hold our first Convivio from 5-6pm in the LCIS Gym. This potluck style gathering is an opportunity for you to share your family’s traditional meal/food with others while trying their traditional food all while meeting and interacting with others. Please join us for this event by signing up using the Convivio flier below.
All Library Books are due by June 2. If you have not turned in your books or paid any outstanding library fines, you might not be able to attend field day.
IXL Homework continues! Students continue to work on their IXL skills in ELA and Math with the goal of completing one-hour of homework for each on IXL. Keep it up Panthers!
Congratulations to our IXL winners from this week!
| Important Update Regarding PowerSchool Data SecurityDear families and educators of the Lake County School District community:We are writing to inform you of a recent development related to the cybersecurity incident PowerSchool experienced in December 2024.PowerSchool is aware that a threat actor has reached out to multiple school district customers in an attempt to extort them using data from the previously reported December 2024 incident. PowerSchool does not believe this is a new incident. Please be assured that both PowerSchool and Lake County School District are taking this situation very seriously. PowerSchool has informed us they are working with cybersecurity experts to thoroughly assess this development and have reported it to law enforcement in both Canada and the United States. As a reminder, following that incident PowerSchool also offered and made widely available credit monitoring and identity protection services for a period of two years to students and faculty Lake County School District regardless of whether they were individually involved. We encourage all those who were offered these services to take advantage of them:For individuals in the U.S.: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-united-states-data-breach/For individuals in Canada: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-canada-data-breach/As was reported earlier this year, PowerSchool made the decision to pay a ransom because they believed it to be in the best interest of their customers and the students and communities they serve. As is always the case with these situations, there was a risk that the bad actors would not delete the data they stole, despite assurances and evidence that were provided PowerSchool. We wanted to share this update as part of our ongoing commitment to transparency. We remain committed to working closely with PowerSchool and law enforcement to provide support in any way we can.Sincerely,Lake County School District |
