News From LCHS 1/23/26

by fvillarreal · January 22, 2026

Dear LCHS Families,

As we wrap up another week here at LCHS, we continue to be proud of our students and what they are capable of achieving. We have incredible students who bring energy and curiosity into the building each day.

From our 7th graders just beginning their time with us to our 12th graders who are thinking carefully about next steps after high school, and every student in between, we are seeing students grow in how they engage with school. Across classrooms and shared spaces, students are following expectations, participating in learning, and contributing to a calm and focused environment. Hallways have been clear, routines are becoming more consistent, and classrooms feel purposeful.

These conditions matter. When the building is structured and focused, teachers can teach and students can learn. We appreciate the work students are doing each day to support that shared goal. We will continue to build on this momentum together

One shift we are making in semester two is a refinement to our Behavior Matrix. Our overall goal as a school remains the same: keeping students in class and engaged in learning as much as possible. As we reflected on semester one, we noticed a gap in our current process between classroom-level responses and exclusionary discipline (ISS/OSS).

To address this, we are adding After School Detention (ASD) as an intervention step prior to ISS or OSS. This will be used for minor offenses and patterns of behavior that need a stronger response but do not warrant removal from instruction. The intent is to provide a meaningful consequence that reinforces accountability while still protecting instructional time. This adjustment helps ensure our responses are more consistent, more proportional, and better aligned to our goal of keeping students learning whenever possible. ASD will be held on Wednesdays from 4PM-6PM. For students that need transportation home, this will be available. If students are assigned ASD and it conflicts with an athletic or activity, students will be required to attend ASD. Some exceptions will apply for extenuating circumstances or competitions.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,

Scott Carroll

Sports Report

HS girls’ nordic won the classic race at Snow Mountain Ranch last Friday but fell 1 point short to Summit in the skate race. 9 of our 10 high school girls and 4 of 5 boys have already qualified for a spot at the state meet. Helen Fiedler and Asher Horning achieved state qualifying spots in their GS alpine skiing events. HS boys’ basketball notched a win against South Park on Monday, while HS girls’ basketball beat Lotus School for Excellence on Wednesday. The 6th and 8th grade girls’ basketball teams were victorious over Vail Mountain School, and HS wrestling continued to show improvement in their matches against Grand Valley, Eagle Valley and Rifle this week.

Senior recognition for basketball and skiing will be Friday between the varsity basketball games, approximately 5:15 pm. It’s Jersey Night, so wear your favorite team jersey to show your Panther spirit!

GO PANTHERS!!!!!
