LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 5-14-26
Hello LCIS Families,
Our students did a good job reading on their End of Year (EOY) DIBELs assessments.
The data from this year show that the percentage of students reading at benchmark levels (the green and blue) grew from 40% to 50%, which is the highest percentage we have seen over the past three years.
And while the percentage of students reading at the well-below benchmark (red) remains unchanged from the beginning of year (BOY) to the EOY, this is three percent lower than it has been over the past three years. Overall, we continue to make steady progress in the area of reading. Please encourage your child to read every day!
Students will continue taking the ELA and Math Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments from the Northwest Evaluation Association NWEA next week. These assessments measure current academic levels and monitor a student’s growth. Please talk with your child about doing their best on this assessment so that they can see how much growth they have made this year.
Wednesday, May 20th is the day that many students have been waiting for- the Rockies Baseball Game! If your child has missed ½ day of school or less this year, they automatically earned a ticket for the game. Many students also received a ticket due to showing perseverance on the CMAS assessments in April. Remember that this group will leave LCIS at 9am and return at 5pm. Help your child be prepared by following the Know Before you Go info page that was emailed on 5/14/26 and is also listed on the flyer below. .
The Annual Lake County School District Art Show is next week! Volunteer opportunities are still available here: https://signup.com/go/goamuPm To learn more, see the flyer with more information at the bottom of this communication. Thank you for supporting our budding artists in Lake County!
One very exciting event coming up is our annual Celebration of Learning on June 10th from 6:00-7:15.
- Lideres Latinx and LCSD are collaborating to sponsor Convivio, a family potluck celebrating our different food cultures. Convivio happens on June 10 at LCIS, right before the Celebration of Learning. Please bring food to the LCIS gym no later than 4:30pm. The event will be from 5-6pm. Feel free to make a small sign telling people about your dish and where it comes from!
- To sign up for Convivio use this link.
- Following Convivio, the Celebration of learning will begin with musical performances in the Gym. Then families will be encouraged to visit students across all grade levels to share in the joy of learning. Students are always so excited to share their work with you.

Curriculum Connection:
6th graders launched their ELA unit on the Titanic last week. On Wednesday, the grade level visited the Molly Brown House in Denver. Margaret Brown was a survivor of the Titanic disaster of 1912. Before that, she lived in Leadville where she met her husband, J.J. Brown in 1886, and the family’s fortune increased dramatically during the silver rush. After surviving the Titanic as a first class passenger, Margret raised money for survivors who were less fortunate, became very active in the women’s suffrage movement, and worked for other philanthropic causes in Denver. Students focused on the question, “How do we know what we know about the past?” These photos show students examining artifacts and primary sources to help them understand life of Margaret Brown and others who lived in this era.

Homework- IXL:
Continue to encourage your child to work on their recommended ELA and Math skills each week for homework. We’re about 50,000 questions lower than what we had last year at this time. Let’s ramp it up and see if we can surpass last year’s total!

Mental Health Matters This May
May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a great time to check in on your student’s emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, and end-of-year transitions can impact how students feel and perform. The School-Based Health Centers through Elevated Community Health are here to support students with a safe, supportive space and access to care right on campus.
Looking ahead to summer, select School-Based Health Centers will remain open, so students can continue receiving care even when school is out.
