October Attendance Letter
Dear Families of LCSD Students,
In our efforts to support student academic success, we want to continue to emphasize the importance of attendance this year. As we stress the importance of being present in school, we want to let you know what you can expect as part of our attendance guidelines.
- Your student’s crew leader will regularly communicate with you about your student’s attendance.
- Each school will have its own unique attendance challenges and incentives throughout the school year.
Evidence shows that students who are absent for 2 or more days per month are at risk for academic challenges. Our district has 162 student contact days. This means that after 16 days missed this school year your child has experienced “chronic” absenteeism. We want your child to have the most opportunities for success and therefore we have a few attendance practices we want to share with you.
- 1 Day Absent:
When your child misses school, you should receive an attendance call to notify you of the absence. - 7 Days Absent:
We may require a doctor’s note to excuse all future absences. - 10 Days Absent:
We will notify you of our concerns in writing. We will establish an attendance success plan for your child. - 15 Days Absent:
We will hold an attendance meeting with you to discuss further actions.
If you know your child will be absent from school, we encourage you to notify our front office staff. If your child is planning to miss school for 3 or more days, you should complete the Request for Pre Arranged Absence Form and submit this to the building secretary. You can get a copy of this form from your child’s school. This form should be submitted three days prior to the absence so that we can notify your child’s teachers and appropriate support for your child can be put into place.
If you have questions or concerns, particularly as it relates to attendance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s crew leader or front office staff. We look forward to working with your child(ren) this school year, and we appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Lake County School District
