SUMMARY: The Custodial Services Director plays a vital role in fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment by building strong relationships, effectively managing conflicts, and streamlining custodial operations to ensure clean, safe, and well-maintained school facilities.
Work Year: 240 Days
Reports To: Chief Operations Officer. Start date: July 1, 2025 (or earlier if available for training)
Salary: 240-day contract follows the LCSD Calendar
$50,000- $65,000 ($26-$34/hour) salary

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Primary Custodial Duties
- Supervise, train, evaluate, and coach custodial staff
- Maintain open communication with custodial teams, school staff, and administration
- Provide custodial services to designated areas
- Coordinate coverage during staff absences, including submitting leaves
- Cover sections, if a substitute can’t be arranged
- Conduct regular meetings to address team concerns and provide guidance
Conflict Resolution & Staff Support
- Address and resolve personnel issues in a fair and timely manner
- Mediate conflicts between custodial staff or between staff and other school personnel
- Serve as the single point of contact for custodial concerns
Operational Efficiency & Coordination
- Prioritize and coordinate custodial work across multiple buildings, ensuring smooth operations and minimal disruptions
- Streamline processes for scheduling, task assignments, and emergency responses to enhance efficiency
- Work with the COO and school administrators to align custodial operations with district goals
Facility Readiness & Safety
- Ensure all school buildings are clean and prepared for students and staff
- Enforce safety procedures and maintain a secure environment
- Oversee and ensure the timely completion of summer projects and other facility-related initiatives
Resource Management & Budgeting
- Manage the custodial budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently
- Understand and follow District policy and AFSCME agreement with fidelity
- Maintain accurate inventories and order supplies in a timely manner
- Obtain cost estimates for supplies and materials
- Follow purchasing guidelines
Administrative & HR Coordination
- Inform HR of hiring needs, assist in recruitment efforts, and support new staff integration
- Verify and submit time sheets for custodial employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: 3+ years’ experience in Custodial services. 2+ years leadership experience.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Communication, computer literacy, interpersonal, and supervisory skills. Knowledge of Custodial equipment, procedures, and systems. Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Driver’s license and ability to pass fingerprinting/background check.
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY Directly supervises staff in the Custodial Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and assisting with interviewing, hiring, rewarding, disciplining, and terminating employees. Acts as a technical resource for District building personnel by responding to questions or requests related to Custodial services.
JUDGMENT AND DECISION-MAKING Nominal direction is given by the COO. Requires independent judgment, technical knowledge, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills to evaluate problems, determine urgency, and arrange for action to ensure the least impact on students and staff. Decision making is guided by District and department policies and procedures, system specifications, and trade standards. Decision making requires collaboration with the COO and/or Superintendent. Errors in decision making could include untimely or inadequate response to a problem, resulting in a failure to deliver services and/or unsafe circumstances.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
