Dear Parents of Lake County School District Students,
We believe that it is important to share with you information about an incident that occurred today during first grade recess, so that you can have appropriate conversations with your child, if desired. Today, after the field day, first grade students were on the playground. Upon coming back inside, some first grade students reported to their teachers that a District employee who was outside was upset, had used profanity, and made a threat related to safety in front of the students.
School staff responded by ensuring safety of students, and school counseling staff offered conversations with students who needed it. Consistent with best practice and District policy, the employee involved has been placed on leave pending an investigation. The District does not comment on personnel matters and is not in a position to share more information at this time.
The safety of your children is our first priority and we will continue to focus on providing a safe and supportive environment for all of our students and staff. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student, please contact us so that we can schedule a time to discuss further.
We appreciate your care in having conversations with your children as needed, and helping them feel safe, as this is our first priority. While we never want an incident like this to occur on our premises, we are very proud of all of the staff and caregivers who responded quickly and professionally to help our students feel safe.
