Staff Communication regarding school closure, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024

Dear LCSD Staff:

Good morning and I hope you were able to get some rest by the time you receive this.

On the advice of and in collaboration with Sheriff Speckman, we have decided not to hold school today, Wednesday, in order to keep students and staff safe in the wake of the school safety concerns that have emerged since midday today and ongoing into the night and early morning. We will be working closely with law enforcement on appropriate next steps as they work through their investigations, and we will keep you informed.

Please check your email regularly throughout the morning as we will likely be scheduling virtual staff meetings later in the day to connect on plans and next steps. While we want to honor our primary mission of educating students, their safety and yours is our top priority. Law enforcement needs time right now to develop appropriate next steps in partnership with our leadership team.

Staff are welcome to go into the buildings today as long as exterior doors remain locked and the building stays secure. Staff are not required to report to work, but we need you to please remain available to connect virtually with your school teams later today.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to plan a safe return to school,

Kate
