LCES & LCIS End of Year Calendar Change
Greetings LCSD Families!
As winter sets in, we’ve also been looking ahead to this coming summer and digging into the details of our School Consolidation plan. In order to best support our LCES and LCIS Teachers and Staff, we are modifying this year’s calendar to release students for summer break 2 days earlier than previously planned in June 2026.
The last day of school for LCES and LCIS students will be Tuesday, June 16th, 2026 instead of Thursday, June 18th, 2026.
WHY THE CHANGE?
This plan allows LCES and LCIS staff two extra days of paid time to pack up their classrooms and transition to their new spaces. This is a big change for everyone, and we want to ensure that staff have the time they need to adjust after a long school year.
In addition, our calendar provides for well above the required number of instructional hours for our elementary students, so we can afford to make this change and still meet our instructional requirements.
WHAT ABOUT LCHS and CCHS?
There are only a few LCHS teachers who will be moving, and we will coordinate a similar amount of paid time for packing and moving. LCHS will continue to release as scheduled on June 18th; high school requirements for instructional hours do not allow for an early release, and the moving impacts at LCHS are also much smaller. CCHS will maintain a normal end of year calendar.
HOW WILL THIS IMPACT LEARNING?
School building teams and teachers will plan their academics and year end activities accordingly, to ensure that students both celebrate the excellent year they’ve had, while also staying on academic pace.
FINALLY, A REMINDER OF THE WHY BEHIND OUR SCHOOL MERGE:
- Think of the school merge as medicine we need to take to stay healthy.
- Our district’s student enrollment is declining, and with that comes declining funding. We also have increasing funding uncertainty at the state and federal levels. All of this makes it important for us to operate more efficiently to keep our staff salaries competitive, and our buildings in good shape.
- We want to serve as many students as possible in our most up-to-date learning environments. These are LCHS and LCES.
QUESTIONS? CONCERNS?
If you have a question about our school merger, please use our school merge question submission form (English or Spanish). It’s a great way to capture questions in the moment, along with things you want to make sure we have thought of. You can also check out the school merge web page for more info.
THANK YOU!
We realize that this is a big change, and we wanted to give all families plenty of time to adjust. We realize that this may be a challenge for some families, and we thank you for the flexibility as we make these important changes to our school district. We also hope that many of you can enjoy the 2 extra days of summer vacation, and fewer days of school in June.
Please reach out to either of us or use the form above if you have any questions or concerns!
Cheers!
