News From LCHS 4/24/26

by sean · April 26, 2026

Dear LCHS Families,

As we wrap up today, I want to take a moment to say thank you.

I want to thank you for your support as we navigated the recent measles situation. We know that events like this can cause concern and we appreciate your working through it with us.

I also want to share some good news from this week. During Scholarship Night, our seniors were awarded a total of $1,919,546 in scholarships from local organizations, state foundations, and colleges and universities. This includes a $2,000 scholarship for every graduate, made possible by the Trail 100 Legacy Foundation. We are grateful for a community that continues to invest in our students in such a meaningful way.

As we head into May, Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-7. If you have a moment, a quick note or message of thanks goes a long way. Our teachers put a great deal into supporting students each day, and it matters.

Looking ahead, we need your help. Our May 21st Art Show is coming up, and we are looking for 175 volunteers to make it a success. This event is a celebration of student voice and creativity, and it only happens with community support. Even an hour of your time makes a real difference. We would love to have you involved.

You can sign up here: https://signup.com/go/goamuPm

Thank you again for your partnership and support.

Sports Report

HS Girls Soccer is on a winning streak! They beat Ft Lupton last week and Nederland this week! We’ll recognize spring sport seniors at Saturday’s game- 1:00 at Community Park Field.

HS Track & Field athlete, Devyn Sterkel, set a meet record in the pole vault at the Northfield Nighthawk Invitational last Saturday. Other athletes earning medals were Josh Sweet (3rd in the pole vault) and Jaren Peters (3rd in the discus).

The MS Knowledge Bowl team continues to place well in their league. The 7th grade team won their meet yesterday, while 8th grade took 2nd. Their championship event is next Thursday.

Let’s GO PANTHERS!!

LCHS Prom

LCHS will be hosting Prom on May 2nd, 2026 at the Elks Lodge, 7-10pm. The cost is $25 per person. Doors will close at 8:30pm. Reentry is not permitted. Guest passes are available at LCHS and must be submitted by April 29th at noon for approval. This includes invited 9-10th graders and non LCHS students. Prom King and Queen will be announced at the dance.

The Scholastic Bookfair

JH Student Senate is hosting The Scholastic Book Fair! SAVE THE DATE for May 4th – 7th from 5:00 – 7:30 pm and get your reader psyched to pick out their own books! Students of any age are invited! The fair will be hosted in the LCHS Library. This is a great opportunity to build your child’s home library with new books they’ll dive into again and again. The easiest way to let your child shop the Fair independently is by creating an eWallet. It’s easy to set up and easy for others to add funds. Create an eWallet, and you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to Share the Fair – the giving program that supports students at our school who need help buying books. Consider participating so that no child leaves the Fair empty-handed! Start exploring together: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/lakecountyhighschool.

Reading Challenge

JH Student Senate is also hosting a reading challenge for 7-12 students during the month of May! We are partnering with the library to use Beanstack, a website or app that tracks their reading minutes. Students will be given prizes based on the number of minutes they read in May, with prizes getting bigger and better the more they read! We will also work towards a whole school goal of 15,000 minutes for the chance to pie Mr. Carroll and a few lucky others!

For more information on either the book fair or reading challenge, please contact Arizona Hager at ahager@lakecountyschools.net

Elevated Community Health

Mental Health Matters This May

May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a great time to check in on your student’s emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, and end-of-year transitions can impact how students feel and perform. The School-Based Health Centers through Elevated Community Health are here to support students with a safe, supportive space and access to care right on campus.

Looking ahead to summer, select School-Based Health Centers will remain open, so students can continue receiving care even when school is out.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 970-710-5049

CMC

The CE team at CMC has been working hard to run another FAFSA/CASFA event to help remove barriers to access our Locals’ scholarships (many outside scholarships require this be completed as well).  CMC is currently running a national survey to collect data on our CE student experience. Please complete the survey here: family survey
