Dear LCHS Families,
It is hard to believe we are already wrapping up the month of April and heading into the final stretch of the school year. This is always a busy and important time. We want to make sure you have a few key dates on your calendar as we move forward.
Final exams for students will take place on Wednesday, June 17th and Thursday, June 18th. We will share a more detailed schedule as we get closer so students and families know exactly what to expect. There will be an opportunity for early final exams on Friday, June 12th. Please keep in mind, this option will be approved only in very limited circumstances. If your student believes they have a qualifying situation, please reach out to the main office to discuss next steps.
We are also looking forward to our second annual Academic Awards Presentation on Thursday, May 21st. This event will take place in the morning and is an opportunity to recognize the hard work, growth, and accomplishments of our students across grade levels. More specific details will be shared in the coming weeks.
As we move through these final weeks, there is a lot to celebrate. There is a sense of momentum in the building right now. Students are engaged in their classes, and we continue to see growth not only academically, but in how students show up for each other and for the adults in the building.
I spent time in the junior high hallway over the past couple of days, and it was a great reminder of the strength of our students. I had multiple students stop to ask how my day was going or take a moment to engage in a genuine conversation. Those small interactions matter. They reflect the kind of culture we are continuing to build together, one where students feel connected, supported, and part of something positive.
We will keep our focus on strong instruction, consistent expectations, and supporting students through the end of the year. As always, we appreciate your partnership and the role you play in helping our students succeed.

Sports Report
Congrats to the high school track and field team! The girls took second at the frontier league championships, with individual titles by Zoey Sweet and Lyza Zoller. The boys team took third, with Devin Sterkel winning two individual titles and being named male athlete of the year.
The seventh-grade knowledge bowl team just won the San Luis valley championships even beating all the eighth-grade teams.
High school girls’ soccer finished fifth in the frontier league, Winning five of their last six games.
There will be a parent meeting for any students interested in playing HS football next year. The meeting will be Tuesday, May 5 at 6:30 in the LCHS library.

We continue to monitor the measles in our schools. We have not had any new cases. We remain at one confirmed case. Please go to the Lake County Public Health website for up-to-date information including upcoming vaccination clinics.

The Scholastic Bookfair
The Book Fair is here! Starting today Monday, 5/4, and ending Thursday, 5/7, students can come to the LCHS library and buy books and other goodies from 5pm to 7:30pm. Parents can visit our homepage, https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/lakecountyhighschool, and set up an eWallet so their kids can buy books! Please consider donating through the Share the Fair link so that no one has to leave the fair empty handed.
Reading Challenge
JH Student Senate is also hosting a reading challenge for 7-12 students during the month of May! We are partnering with the library to use Beanstack, a website or app that tracks their reading minutes. Students will be given prizes based on the number of minutes they read in May, with prizes getting bigger and better the more they read! We will also work towards a whole school goal of 15,000 minutes for the chance to pie Mr. Carroll and a few lucky others!

Mental Health Matters This May
May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a great time to check in on your student’s emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, and end-of-year transitions can impact how students feel and perform. The School-Based Health Centers through Elevated Community Health are here to support students with a safe, supportive space and access to care right on campus.
Looking ahead to summer, select School-Based Health Centers will remain open, so students can continue receiving care even when school is out.

La salud mental es importante este mayo
Mayo es el Mes de la Concientización sobre la Salud Mental, un buen momento para reflexionar sobre el bienestar emocional de su estudiante. El estrés, la ansiedad y las transiciones de fin de año pueden afectar cómo se sienten y se desempeñan los estudiantes. Los Centros de Salud Escolar a través de Elevated Community Health están aquí para apoyar a los estudiantes con un espacio seguro y acceso a servicios directamente en la escuela.

The CE team at CMC has been working hard to run another FAFSA/CASFA event to help remove barriers to access our Locals’ scholarships (many outside scholarships require this be completed as well).
