Curious about Compost?

Here is a quick update on our school composting efforts: We estimate (from the compost log) that we are composting 450 pounds of food scraps a week from the Intermediate School and High School.  So far we have filled one Earth Tub, which means that 3 cubic yards of compost will be ready to use in about one month.  As the compost in the Earth Tub cures over the next month, we will fill the other tub.  Compost temperatures have ranged from 130 degrees Fahrenheit at its hottest, to closer to 70 degrees during the curing process.  Reports from compost monitors are that there is still a small amount of trash making it into the compost, but all in all, we are really getting the hang of this!
