Dear LCHS Families,
Before sharing this week’s updates, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the heartbreaking loss of two Leadville Colorado Mountain College students. Our hearts are with their families, friends, and loved ones, as well as our CMC partners, staff, and students during this incredibly difficult time. As a close-knit community, we share in their grief and extend our deepest condolences to everyone impacted by this tragedy.
A few updates:
- Final exams will be held on Wednesday, December 16th and Thursday, December 17th. In very rare circumstances (family illness, funeral, etc…) we approve early finals. We will hold an early finals day on Friday, December 11th beginning at 8:15AM. Early finals are approved only in rare and exceptional circumstances. Families must receive confirmation from LCHS for the early final option. Students are expected to be present for all of their scheduled finals during finals week. If a student does not attend their final and has not been approved for an early final, the grade will be recorded as a zero. If you believe your student has an extenuating situation that may qualify, please reach out to the main office as soon as possible.
- As a reminder, we are a closed campus for grades 6-9. This means that all 6th through 9th grade students must remain on campus during lunch unless a parent or guardian excuses them. 10th through 12th grade has the ability to leave campus for lunch.
- If you need to make changes to your student’s afternoon plans, please contact the office by 3:25PM so we have time to communicate those changes before dismissal. We also encourage students to visit the office during their lunch period to coordinate any changes to their plans, rather than waiting until the end of the school day when the office is especially busy.
- Following a recommendation from our Building Leadership Team (BLT), we have updated our expectations for personal devices at LCHS. Students are now expected to use their LCSD-issued Chromebooks in all LCHS classes, regardless of previous BYOD approval. This change is intended to create greater consistency across classrooms, reduce confusion about which devices students may use, and allow teachers to focus more on instruction rather than monitoring different device arrangements. Having a common expectation also helps us reinforce responsible technology use and keep students engaged in learning. Students on the approved BYOD list will still be able to use their personal devices in the library when needed for approved online courses, including CMC, BYU, CDLS, or other approved programs. This approach allows us to maintain consistent classroom expectations while continuing to support students who need personal devices for outside coursework.
As we head into November, I remain grateful for the opportunity to lead LCHS and for the students, staff, and families who make our school community so special.
We are glad you are a part of LCHS,
