General Information:
Project Dream programs are a part of Lake County Schools, and we are excited to provide enriching programs for your students. Students are expected to apply the norms for behavior and participation they are used to during the school day at Project Dream. All Project Dream programs for students grades 7-12 will take place at LCHS and nearby outdoor spaces, unless otherwise communicated. Project Dream at LCHS is “Drop In,” meaning students can come any day without prior notice. Attendance for Project Dream programs is taken daily. A waiver must be signed for every student who attends programming.
Registration:
Students grades 7-12 may attend any after school program (including tutoring or clubs) on a drop-in basis, no registration needed. Parents and families are welcome to call the Project Dream Site Supervisor phones at any time to check on their child’s attendance.
Transportation is provided if this is a significant barrier for a student to participate. Students requiring transportation home from afterschool can sign up daily with Project Dream staff.
Transportation:
After School Information (Mon.-Thu.):
Project Dream runs until 6:00 pm Monday – Thursday. We offer tutoring and activity clubs. Project Dream welcomes students to start a club of their choice. When a student commits to run an after school club, we cover the cost for supplies necessary to run the club successfully. This is a great opportunity for your student to try something new and interesting. If your student is interested in starting a club please contact Lana Butler.
Friday Information:
Fridays run at LCHS from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. In the morning we focus on academics, and activities and clubs run in the afternoon. Students requiring transportation for Friday programs need to request this from the Site Supervisor (Lana) during the week leading up.
Pick-up:
When picking up your child in the evening, you will need to come to the student parking lot area of LCHS.
- For afterschool programs, students must be picked up by 6:00 pm.
- For Friday programs, students must be picked up by 3:30 pm.
Attendance Policy:
For grades 7-12, LCSD Project Dream places the responsibility for attendance on the parent and the child. Parents are welcome to call the Project Dream Site Supervisor phones at any time to check on their child’s attendance.
LCSD Project Dream Behavior Guidelines:
The purpose of our programs is to provide a positive, enriching environment for children. As a program of the Lake County School District, Project Dream aligns with the administrative policies of the district and expectations for student behavior as determined by each school. Project Dream seeks to support the behavior expectations of Lake County School District through implementation of a restorative justice approach. However, Project Dream often has less ability to support student behavior and positive participation due to the nature of employing part-time youth development workers. Decisions regarding disciplinary actions and program participation reflect the unique context of Project Dream programs and staffing.
Disciplinary actions are determined by the Site Supervisor in consultation with the Out-of-School Time Director. Possible disciplinary actions include: early pickup, suspension, day reduction, and permanent suspension.
In the case of any physical altercations or incidents, Project Dream will notify parents that they need to arrange for an immediate pickup of their student. Project Dream will follow up after the incident to discuss further consequences.
In most cases, minor disciplinary actions resulting from Project Dream programs do not result in disciplinary consequences during the school day. However, Students who receive an in-school or out-of-school suspension during the school day are not permitted to attend afterschool programs that day. In addition, Project Dream supervisors and administrators will collaborate with school building administrators to determine the appropriateness of continued attendance for Project Dream programs based on student behavior.
In some cases, Project Dream may require a chaperone for a student to attend some programs. Due to limited staffing availability and staff training for Project Dream club leaders, participation in some activities may only be appropriate when a student is chaperoned by a trusted adult. It is the responsibility of the chaperone to assist in behavior management and positive engagement for their student only. Chaperones are asked to collaborate with the Project Dream Site Supervisor to align on behavior management and support strategies.
