West Park Celebration of Learning
On the evening of the winter solstice, West Park Elementary invited parents and family members of its Kindergarten through second grade students to a Celebration of Learning. Students and families began in the gym for a school-wide Crew, in which community members heard an opening reading and greeted one another with handshakes, high fives and sharing their favorite things about winter. Then, parents and families toured the school to see presentations of learning given by students. Kindergarten shared their successful efforts to organize a community food drive; they also performed the story “Stone Soup.” First graders presented their learning about American symbols such as the flag. And second graders profiled honey bees and their communication mechanisms, which they also acted out. We are incredibly proud of our West Park students and teachers for presenting their learning, tied directly to Colorado’s academic standards, in such powerful ways!
