Another Busy Week at CCHS!
We want to extend a huge thank-you to the Lions Club and LCHS for their hard work and dedication in putting on another successful Career Fair. This event is always insightful and encourages students to explore different careers and consider the many opportunities available to them.
Student of the Month
Congratulations to Ruby Pizana, who was selected as our August Student of the Month! Ruby was recognized for her laser focus on working toward graduation, excellent attendance, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and respectful treatment of others. Way to go, Ruby!
Work-Based Learning Career Tour
Thursday brought another amazing Work-Based Learning career tour! Students explored the wide variety of careers involved in potato farming and agriculture, including electrical work, crop inspection, welding, truck driving, sorting, and packaging.
A huge shout-out to JDS Farms and Jon Hathaway for making this valuable experience possible! (Pictures of the visit are below)
Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation
Great news from the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation! They have increased their scholarship award from $2,000 to $3,000 per graduate. This generous support will help Lake County students continue their education after high school through trade programs, community colleges, certification programs, or four-year institutions and beyond. A huge shout-out and heartfelt thank-you to the Foundation for investing in the dreams and futures of our students!
Academic Highlights
This week, students wrapped up another unit of study in their academic classes and demonstrated their competency through their portfolios.
Parents/guardians, please ask your child what they are learning and invite them to show you their work. Students should be able to explain their learning in each class in detail. This is a wonderful way to celebrate their progress and stay connected to their education.

We are only four weeks away from our Student-Led Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please watch for information about signing up in upcoming newsletters and on the school website.

Help Us Bring a Family Perspective to District Finances
The district is looking for parents, guardians, and other community members interested in volunteering for our Finance Committee. You do not need experience in finance or accounting. We are looking for people who are curious, willing to ask questions, and interested in learning more about how school funding works.
The committee reviews the district’s budget and financial position, discusses financial issues facing our schools, and provides a community perspective on financial decisions. If you’ve ever wondered where school funding comes from, why some money can only be spent on certain things, or how financial decisions get made, this is a good opportunity to learn more and help us make this information easier for families to understand.
The committee meets about 3–4 times per year, generally from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Meetings this year are currently planned for October, January, and April.
