Dear LCES Families and Guardians,
What an exciting week at LCES! We have loved seeing so much Panther pride throughout our Homecoming Spirit Week. On Thursday, we kicked off our second K-5 House Party with a Homecoming pep rally, followed by lots of House spirit and fun! Each House created its own cheer or chant, so be sure to ask your student to share their House chant with you!

October Reading Challenge: Our October Reading Challenge has begun! Please look for your child’s reading log and family letter in your child’s backpack. Each time your child brings back a reading log, your child will get to pick a special prize from Ms. Mulcey and Ms. Kortkamp. The class who turns in the most reading logs will win a prize for their teacher. Students who participate in the reading challenge will enter our raffle to win a basket with books and activities (one per grade level). Have fun reading…’Grow your world and read every day!’
Public Library: Mrs. Osborn has begun taking K-5 classes to the public library during their “Explore” block. All K-5 students will have the opportunity to check out books from the public library. Through a program with Lake County Public Library, all students will have a library card that will stay here at school. The library is a fantastic place to visit after school and on the weekends to gain access to books and other great resources. Any child, any time can go visit the library and check out books using their free library card- just tell the front desk staff your child’s name to gain access. We are very excited and fortunate to be working with the Lake County Public Library!

The Center Specifics
Dear Preschool Families,
Hello! Happy October! Hard to believe October is here with snow on our mountains! The chilly air brings cold cheeks and hands. Please always send a jacket with your child for outdoor play and maybe a hat and some light gloves too.
This week families and kids brought the Homecoming Spirit. What a fun week! We loved seeing all the creativity that went into our themed days.

Our Parent Teacher conferences will be held on October 14 and 15. Please note that we have early dismissal at 11:00am for these two days. All preschool children will need to be picked up from The Center at 11:00am, there is no extended hour programming on Parent Teacher Conference days. You can find the link to sign up in Ms. Lovely’s section above.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend, see you Monday!

Classroom News!
This week we finished up our All About Me unit with a 5 Senses tasting party. Classrooms explored different foods using their five senses and then got to try tasting them. Pretzels and oranges were a collective hit, apple chips and shredded coconut had mixed reviews. The excitement was high and there was a high willingness to try tasting new things.
This week’s letter is Aa. The sound is /a/ like in ant. The letter a can make two sounds; a long sound like in acorn or the short sound like apple. In preschool, we focus on the short sound like in ant or apple.. This is Alliee Alligator. Her name starts with the /a/ sound.
