Dear LCES Families and Guardians,
It’s hard to believe we are nearing the last week of September and the first week of October! We have lots to look forward to as we head into a fun and busy week ahead.
Next week is Homecoming Spirit Week at Lake County School District, and we can’t wait to see our students showing their school spirit! We’re looking forward to a fun week together-Go Panthers!
We are also kicking off our October Reading Challenge on Thursday, October 1! Information and reading logs will be sent home by the end of next week. In the meantime, please continue to encourage your student to read at home each day. A little reading goes a long way!
We are also looking forward to Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 14–15. The sign-up link will be coming very soon. Friendly reminder: dismissal begins at 11:00 a.m. on both conference days.

K-5 Specifics
October Reading Challenge: Our October Reading Challenge starts on Thursday, October 1! Please look for your child’s reading log and family letter in your child’s backpack. Each time your child brings back a reading log, your child will get to pick a special prize from Ms. Mulcey and Ms. Kortkamp. The class who turns in the most reading logs will win a prize for their teacher. Students who participate in the reading challenge will enter our raffle to win a basket with books and activities (one per grade level). Have fun reading…’Grow your world and read every day!’
Public Library: Mrs. Osborn has begun taking K-5 classes to the public library during their “Explore” block. All K-5 students will have the opportunity to check out books from the public library. Through a program with Lake County Public Library, all students will have a library card that will stay here at school. The library is a fantastic place to visit after school and on the weekends to gain access to books and other great resources. Any child, any time can go visit the library and check out books using their free library card- just tell the front desk staff your child’s name to gain access. We are very excited and fortunate to be working with the Lake County Public Library!
September Panther HOWL (Habit of Work & Learning) Focus: Responsibility
For the month of September, we will celebrate the HOWL of Responsibility. Responsibility means, “I take care of myself, others, and our environment. I take ownership of my learning, my actions, and my mistakes.”
September is Attendance Awareness Month: Earn a Free Colorado Rapids ticket when you come to school We’re having an Attendance Challenge. If your student has 1 or less absence between September 14th and October 12th they earn a free ticket to a Colorado Rapids game!
Attendance Pizza: Our school-wide average daily attendance is leveling out at 94%. Students who have perfect attendance every 2 weeks will be entered into a raffle for a free pizza from the Famous! Our next raffle is September 28th!

Come Have Lunch With Your Student!: We would love to welcome you into our school for lunch! Sharing a meal with your child is a wonderful way to see our new building, connect with your student during the day, and experience our school community.

– Transportation schedules are updated & posted on our LCES Project Dream information page (link above).
– For afterschool, please do not pick up before 5:15p, as students will be in activities and their departure before the end of activity can cause disruptions.
– Due to our current waitlist, please let us know if your plans have changed and you no longer need your student to attend any Project Dream program. -If your student needs to miss a day of afterschool, please notify the LCES front office by 2:30 pm at the very latest.

Dear Preschool Families,
We hope you were able to attend our Family Fun night last night! We loved having you join us. If you missed it, don’t worry, we will be hosting a few more throughout the year.
Next week is Homecoming week! LCES and the preschool will be participating in Spirit Week as a way to share our Panther Pride. Each day has a new theme. Help your child dress to match the theme, there is no pressure, this is just for fun! The themes are:
- Monday – Mismatch Day (wear different patterns or colors)
- Tuesday – Crazy Hair & Socks Day (let’s see your silly socks)
- Wednesday – Sports Day (show off your favorite sport or team)
- Thursday – Purple and Gold Day (Go Panthers!)

Classroom News!
Did you know we brush our teeth every day after breakfast? This is a daily routine to get those sugar bugs and support healthy habits. We utilize a Mickey Mouse song to help us with our technique and to ensure we brush for 2 minutes. Here is the link, try it at home!

Try finding all your body parts that start with the /f/ sound – fingers, feet, and face! What other things can you think of that start with the /f/ sound. Look for the letter F in books or places like the grocery store, how many can you find?

Family Engagement Corner
Hello PreK Families!
We would like to remind everyone that regular school attendance is very important for your child’s learning and success.
If your child will be absent from school, please remember to call the front office between 8:00 AM and 9:10 AM to excuse the absence. If you call after 9:10 AM, your child may still receive an automated attendance call before the absence can be updated in our system.
If we have not heard from you after 10:00 AM regarding your child’s absence, Raquel will reach out to you.

Homecoming Spirit Week
Help Us Bring a Family Perspective to District Finances
The district is looking for parents, guardians, and other community members interested in volunteering for our Finance Committee. You do not need experience in finance or accounting. We are looking for people who are curious, willing to ask questions, and interested in learning more about how school funding works.
The committee reviews the district’s budget and financial position, discusses financial issues facing our schools, and provides a community perspective on financial decisions. If you’ve ever wondered where school funding comes from, why some money can only be spent on certain things, or how financial decisions get made, this is a good opportunity to learn more and help us make this information easier for families to understand.
The committee meets about 3–4 times per year, generally from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Meetings this year are currently planned for October, January, and April.

Looking for a way to be a little more involved? Join Panther Padres!
Panther Padres are parent volunteers who help connect families, our school, and our community. Panther Padres spread the word about school events and important information, share parent feedback and questions with school leadership, and help clarify rumors or misinformation by connecting families with accurate, firsthand information.
Through direct communication with school leaders, including the Superintendent, Panther Padres help create a stronger sense of community, connection, and trust—making sure families feel informed and included.
