Dear LCES Families and Guardians,

We are so proud of the strong attendance we’ve seen during our first six weeks of school! Thank you for prioritizing your student’s attendance and for maintaining strong routines at home so they are ready to learn each day.

Remember, some of the simplest ways to support your student’s academic success are reading together at home (or making sure they are completing their reading log) and practicing math facts regularly. These small routines make a big difference!

We hope you enjoy the beautiful fall leaves and weather this weekend. Have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll see everyone on Monday!

With appreciation,

Brandi Lovely, PK-5 Principal

All K-5 students will have the opportunity to check out books from the public library. Through a program with Lake County Public Library, all students will have a library card that will stay here at school. The library is a fantastic place to visit after school and on the weekends to gain access to books and other great resources. Any child, any time can go visit the library and check out books using their free library card- just tell the front desk staff your child’s name to gain access. We are very excited and fortunate to be working with the Lake County Public Library!

The Center Specifics

Dear Preschool Families,

Our first Family Fun Night is next week on Thursday September 24 from 5:30-6:30.  The theme is “Healthy Me.”  We will have several activities for families to engage in together focused around health.  We also have some partner agencies joining us to share resources.  We hope you can come!

Our attendance in preschool continues to track strong, we are excited to see that kids are well and enjoying preschool.  With our recent building consolidation, we are continually refining our practices as a PreK-5 building.  One of those is attendance calls.  If your child is going to be absent, please call the main LCES office at 719-486-6890 between 8 and 9:10.  During this time, we will note the absence in our Powerschool system. Calls after 9:10 will still be noted in our system but due to timing you will still receive that automated district call.  Please remember to always call in whenever your child is absent.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend, our beautiful fall colors are putting on a show!

See you Monday!

Classroom News!

This week in classrooms, we started our letter and sound instruction.  The letter this week was Mm.  The sound is /m/ like in mouse.  We use Zoo Phonics resources to support our letter and sound instruction.  Each letter is connected to an animal with a special name.  There is also a gesture that goes with the letter sound. This is a multi-sensory approach, children can use the gesture or movement as an anchor for the sound until they are ready to remember it on their own.  This is Missie Mouse.  Her name starts with the /m/ sound.

Try finding things at home that start with the /m/ sound!  If your child has the letter m in their name this is a great connection.  Find the letter m in books that you read, items around your house, or in the names of your family members.  Have fun practicing at home!

Help Us Bring a Family Perspective to District Finances

The district is looking for parents, guardians, and other community members interested in volunteering for our Finance Committee. You do not need experience in finance or accounting. We are looking for people who are curious, willing to ask questions, and interested in learning more about how school funding works.

The committee reviews the district’s budget and financial position, discusses financial issues facing our schools, and provides a community perspective on financial decisions. If you’ve ever wondered where school funding comes from, why some money can only be spent on certain things, or how financial decisions get made, this is a good opportunity to learn more and help us make this information easier for families to understand.

The committee meets about 3–4 times per year, generally from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Meetings this year are currently planned for October, January, and April.
