Sports Report
Homecoming week was a big success! In their homecoming game, HS soccer beat Caprock Academy 9-0! On Saturday, HS volleyball beat Cripple Creek-Victor to improve their record to 7-6. In their first meeting this season, HS soccer tied Colorado Rocky Mountain School 2-2, but Thursday night, the Panthers beat them 4-1.
Congratulations to homecoming king and queen Devyn Sterkel and Layla Horning! Congrats to the other court members: Nevaeh Barela, Mallory Negrete, Nathanael Granillo and Itai Sheleg.
The HS Knowledge Bowl team traveled to Brighton last Saturday. Although Lake County is a significantly smaller school than any of the others competing, they placed 3rd and qualified for the National Quiz Bowl tournament in Chicago.
The Lake County cross country teams dominated at the West Central League XC Championship, held on the CMC Leadville trails on Saturday. The Panthers won all 4 divisions and had 3 individual champions. Chloe King and Hattie Mallozzi finished 1st and 2nd in the high school girls’ division. John Horning and Zoe Peters won the middle school races.
MS volleyball is wrapping up their season. The B team heads into the league tournament tomorrow in 2nd place. The A team is sitting in 3rd place and will host the A tournament next Friday.
Middle school boys’ basketball season begins on October 19. There will be 1 more optional open gym date to prepare for the season- Monday, Oct 12, from 6-7:30 pm at the intermediate school gym. If your student would like to participate this season, please register them with this google form by October 12: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwvS-BR-9IS0TvG8KufLSKz55GL-LRpH41y2EYjVB-3Ae_7Q/viewform?usp=dialog

Help Us Bring a Family Perspective to District Finances
The district is looking for parents, guardians, and other community members interested in volunteering for our Finance Committee. You do not need experience in finance or accounting. We are looking for people who are curious, willing to ask questions, and interested in learning more about how school funding works.
The committee reviews the district’s budget and financial position, discusses financial issues facing our schools, and provides a community perspective on financial decisions. If you’ve ever wondered where school funding comes from, why some money can only be spent on certain things, or how financial decisions get made, this is a good opportunity to learn more and help us make this information easier for families to understand.
The committee meets about 3–4 times per year, generally from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Meetings this year are currently planned for October, January, and April.
