Dear LCHS Families,
As we close out September, I wanted to take a moment to look back on the month and share a few things we are seeing across LCHS.
September is always an important month in a school. The excitement of the beginning of the year starts to settle, routines become more established, and we begin to get a clearer picture of how students are doing academically, socially, and as members of our school community.
There is a lot to celebrate.
This month, LCHS officially moved into Performance on our School Performance Framework. This represents years of hard work by our students, staff, families, and community, and we are incredibly proud of that progress.
We are also seeing encouraging growth in classrooms. Our staff continues to focus on strong instruction, meaningful student participation, and making sure students are doing the thinking, talking, writing, problem-solving, and learning. We are continuing to build consistency around classroom routines and expectations while supporting teachers with new curriculum and instructional work.
Another important focus this year is listening to students. We held our first student advisory conversations in September and heard directly from students about what is working well, where they feel connected, and where we can continue to improve their experience at LCHS. Their perspective is an important part of how we continue to grow as a school.
As we move into October, our focus remains pretty simple: strong instruction, consistent expectations, meaningful relationships, and making sure every student is known and supported.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Our upcoming conferences are an important part of that work.
Conferences will be held from 1:00-8:00PM, with a staff dinner break from 4:30-5:30PM. Conferences will be drop-in, so families are welcome to come at the time that works best for them outside of the dinner break.
We know how valuable it is when families are able to come into the building, meet with teachers, ask questions, and talk about how their student is doing. Our goal is for this time to be useful and focused on your student’s learning, progress, strengths, and next steps.
As you prepare for conferences, a few questions you might consider asking are:
- What is my student doing well right now?
- Where is there an opportunity for growth?
- Is my student consistently engaged in the learning?
- What can we do at home to support progress?
- Is there anything you want us to know about how our student is experiencing school?
We are grateful for the partnership of our families and for the trust you place in us every day.
September gave us a lot to celebrate and a lot to continue building on. We are excited to keep that work moving forward together in October.
We are glad you are a part of LCHS,

Help Us Bring a Family Perspective to District Finances
The district is looking for parents, guardians, and other community members interested in volunteering for our Finance Committee. You do not need experience in finance or accounting. We are looking for people who are curious, willing to ask questions, and interested in learning more about how school funding works.
The committee reviews the district’s budget and financial position, discusses financial issues facing our schools, and provides a community perspective on financial decisions. If you’ve ever wondered where school funding comes from, why some money can only be spent on certain things, or how financial decisions get made, this is a good opportunity to learn more and help us make this information easier for families to understand.
The committee meets about 3–4 times per year, generally from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Meetings this year are currently planned for October, January, and April.

Parent & Business Potluck for Parent-Teacher Conferences
Weds. October 14, brought to you by the DAC!
The District Accountability Committee (DAC) is organizing a potluck dinner for one night of conferences, Wednesday, October 14. We warmly invite all LCSD parents/families and community members to contribute what you can. Your generosity will make a meaningful difference and help us celebrate our dedicated teachers. Food drop off will be at each school between 3-4pm. Please no plug in dishes such as crock pots. Food may come warm and we will keep it warm. If you bring a dish in a container that is not disposable, please plan to pick up this container no later than 7:00pm. We will send more detailed instructions closer to the date for everyone who signs up!
This is our only Parent-Teacher Conference potluck event for the entire year—we appreciate your help!
