Safety Concern at LCHS ~ 9/22/2022~ Updated 12:00 pm
Update at 12:00 noon
Dear LCSD Families and Community,
We are reaching out at this time to give you an update on today’s concern at Lake County High School.
In response to the report of a potential firearm on campus, an investigation in conjunction with Leadville PD and Lake County Sheriff’s office were held. As an outcome of this investigation, it is believed that an alleged incident occurred off campus last night. Out of an abundance of caution, Administration conducted a full search of the building and bags schoolwide in which no concerns to safety were found. After this was complete, the “secure” state was removed and students will return to school as normal.
Law enforcement presence will be on site at Lake County High School for the remainder of the day. If families or students plan to return to the building to attend the pep rally we ask that you not bring any bags, backpacks and purses. Any bags, purses or backpacks will be searched prior to entry into Lake County High School for the remainder of the day.
The pep rally, parade, and homecoming dance are planned to continue as scheduled with additional safety precautions being taken. A communication from Lake County High School around additional safety measures will be forthcoming.
We appreciate the help, support and patience of all staff and families during this morning’s incident as we took measures to ensure safety for our students.

Dear LCSD families and Community,
Safety and security of our students and staff is our main concern. This morning, the Lake County High School received a report of a potential firearm on campus. Law enforcement was immediately called and the school was put into “Secure and Hold” The students are in their classrooms and are not changing classes until dismissed.
Administration has since learned that the alleged incident occurred off campus last night. However, out of an abundance of caution, they will be doing a full search of the building and bags schoolwide in collaboration with law enforcement.
Updates will be provided as more facts surrounding this incident become available.
Students are in classes, in a “secure and hold” setting which means they are not changing classes, and are being held in classrooms until the check is complete.
We will continue the school day as planned, with a regular dismissal system. If any parent wishes to pick up their child early from school today, please know we are running a controlled release, which means parents will be asked to wait in the vestibule, and their child will be walked to the front doors for release. We appreciate your patience as we add security measures.
ALL other LCSD school campuses are in a “Secure” setting and continue their class day as normal.
Thank you for your support and patience.
