Accident involving LCHS Students
Dear LCSD Families and Community:
You may have already heard of the sad news in the community; we were informed of a car accident that occurred this morning where some of our LCHS students were involved. From the information that has currently been provided to us, we know that a couple of the students have serious injuries and have been transported out of Leadville for medical care. Our hearts go out to the students and families with loved ones involved in this developing situation.
We are working closely with our School Based Counselors, Sol Vista Mental Health, and our counseling department to provide support to LCSD students, staff and families on Tuesday and all week. This will look different at the high school level than for the intermediate and elementary school level. At the high school level, crew teachers will work with students to process this news and support students as needed. We will continue to be sensitive to student needs throughout the week and will update families as we are informed and able to release information. At the elementary and intermediate level we will have counseling staff designated to respond if the need arises.
Tomorrow, the LCHS auditorium and CCHS community room will be an open space for students to go and get support or just to have space to process the events and their emotions. These spaces will be staffed. The staff members will meet students and help direct them to the appropriate support they need.
This may be a difficult week for all of us. We may all respond to traumatic experiences in different ways and need different support. If your child is needing additional support please reach out to your students’ school. If your family is needing additional support services, please reach out to Sol Vista Mental Health at 719-486-0985 or your family physician for additional sources. Please let us know if we can support you or your child in any way.
