High School Sports Report- Oct 7
Boys’ soccer matched up against new Frontier League rival, Englewood, on Wednesday. The first half of the game was back and forth, with Lake County goalkeeper Jonathan Valdez keeping several shots out of the goal. Early in the second half, Fernando Chavez forced the ball through 3 defenders and scored the first one for the Panthers. Joseph Espinoza scored a 2nd goal before Englewood was able to put one past Valdez. Angel Rodriguez sealed the win for the Panthers when he sent a beautiful ball sailing into the upper corner of the net off an assist from Chavez.
Last night, our volleyball team faced Bennett High School, who is currently the top team in the Frontier League. Bennett came out strong and won the first set 25-16. Bolstered by the support of their enthusiastic fans, the Lady Panthers pulled out a win in the second set 25-23. Serving errors hurt Lake County in the third set and they lost 25-16, but they fought hard in the fourth set, winning that one 25-22. Bennett won the fifth and final set 15-5 to claim the victory, but it was a great showing from our girls. They now sit 3rd in the Frontier League and will face Bennett and Ft Lupton, the 2 schools who have beaten them, in Bennett on Saturday, October 22, for a chance at redemption.
Both of these programs have HOME GAMES again TOMORROW, October 8! Soccer plays another Frontier League addition, Arvada, starting at 10 am. Volleyball takes on KIPP Collegiate- C team at 2, JV at 3 and Varsity at 4.
