LCSD Schools to Resume Normal Activities Nov. 13, 2:00 pm
Dear LCSD Families & Staff:
We are pleased to report that the district has been cleared by law enforcement to return to normal operations. We worked with officers from both the Leadville Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to ensure that our schools are safe for staff and students to return, and based on these efforts and progress in the investigation we are ready to welcome everyone back to school.
We are grateful for your patience, and we understand that it is difficult to not know the specifics when things like this happen. Often, we find ourselves in the same situation. We trust law enforcement to release information as they are able; during an active investigation, the district does not release information separately from law enforcement. Following the Lake County Sheriff’s Office online is a great way to make sure you receive information in a timely manner; the latest update was posted about 1:30pm on their Facebook page, and we have copied it below.
The middle school boys will follow the plan for their away basketball game this afternoon. Information about The Crucible will be released shortly; performances are planned for Friday and Saturday at LCHS. Staff Professional Development will take place as planned tomorrow.
We appreciate your support in keeping students, staff and our schools safe. We look forward to seeing students on Monday. Staff will be planning ways to make sure that students feel seen and supported, as we know these events can be very unsettling.
I very much hope for a day when students, families, staff and schools do not have to endure these difficult interruptions to learning. I am doing a lot of reflection on how I, personally, can contribute to that kind of future, and I welcome your ideas.
Cheers,
Kate
Kate Bartlett, Superintendent
