Dear LCES Families and Guardians,
We can hardly believe we are already four weeks into the school year! It has been so exciting to see our students growing as learners, classmates, and members of our LCES PK-5 community. We are intentionally building a strong culture of learning through our Habits of Work and Learning (HOWLS): Compassion, Perseverance, Responsibility, Craftsmanship, Curiosity, Creativity, Collaboration, and Respect. We are seeing these HOWLS in action every day!
Breakfast Reminder: Breakfast is served in classrooms for K-5 students from 7:45-8:00 a.m. If you are dropping your student off for breakfast, please make sure they arrive with enough time to eat before Crew begins.

Come Have Lunch With Your Student!: We would love to welcome you into our school for lunch! Sharing a meal with your child is a wonderful way to see our new building, connect with your student during the day, and experience our school community.

September Panther HOWL (Habit of Work & Learning) Focus: Responsibility
For the month of September, we will celebrate the HOWL of Responsibility. Responsibility means, “I take care of myself, others, and our environment. I take ownership of my learning, my actions, and my mistakes.”
Attendance: Week 4 of school, attendance continues to be high! Year to date our overall average daily attendance is 95%. Beginning this month, students who have perfect attendance every 2 weeks will be entered into a raffle for a free pizza from the Famous! Our first raffle is September 14th!

K-5 Project Dream
Reminders & Updates
– All Project Dream programs take place at Lake County Intermediate School (1000 W 6th St.)
– Transportation schedules are posted on our LCES Project Dream information page (link above).
– For afterschool, please do not pick up before 5:15p, as students will be in activities and their departure before the end of activity can cause disruptions.
– Students who bike to school can load their bike up on the activity buses that transport students between LCES & LCIS. This may change when we begin transporting students via large school buses.
– Due to our current waitlist, please let us know if your plans have changed and you no longer need your student to attend any Project Dream program.
Registration
A combination of high program interest and capacity limitations for afterschool and Friday programs have resulted in a maximum of 3 days of afterschool and a waitlist for both afterschool and Friday programs. We are sharing the following updates to give a timeframe for expanded capacity and moving students off the waitlist to help families make better plans for their students this Fall.
We expect to be able to open more spots for afterschool and Friday programs for grades K-5 (LCES) beginning September 8th, the Tuesday after we return from Labor Day Weekend. Our goal is to move as many families off the waitlist as possible at that time. Waitlist spots are determined by the date we received your request, with the earliest requests being highest on the waitlist. We do not publish what spot a student is on the waitlist. We will reach out to families to confirm their added days prior to the Labor Day weekend.
We expect another expansion of our capacity later in the Fall, likely after the Fall Break. If we still have a waitlist at that time, we will prioritize enrolling families without days before expanding to four days. Do not expect your student to have four days of afterschool this Fall.
A reminder, our online registration through school registration closed on July 29th. If you submitted registration for Project Dream after July 29th, you need to contact Blanca Rodriguez directly to be on the waitlist for afterschool and Friday programs. Many families have already taken this step and have a spot on the waitlist, but feel free to reach out to Blanca to confirm.

The Center Specifics
Dear Preschool Families,
Our attendance this week at preschool was very strong! This was exciting to see as we already have had a little bit of illness sweep through the program and we are happy children are feeling better. Thank you for being so diligent with calling when your child is absent, we appreciate this communication.
As a reminder, our timeline for updated physicals and well child exams is Tuesday September 8. We must have this on file or written evidence of an upcoming appointment. Please reach out if you need any support with this requirement.
We may start to see more of a chill in the air as fall in Leadville approaches, please always send a light jacket so your child can play comfortably outside.

Classroom News!
We started our All About Me learning domain this week. We will be learning about how we are all different, but how we are all also the same. Children will learn words to describe ourselves and name body parts. Here are some suggestions of activities you can do at home to help your child remember what we are learning at school.
- Read Aloud Each Day: Children love hearing stories, especially before bedtime. Before you read a book, talk about the title of the book. As you read you can point out body parts for the characters in the book. You can also talk about whether or not the characters in the book are human, we are learning the word human in school.
- Sign Nursery Rhymes: Nursery rhymes are a fun way for children to learn the rhythm and sounds of language. Last week we learned “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. Sing this with your child and have them teach you the motions that go with this rhyme. We are also learning “Open, Shut, Them.” We sing the first part of “Open Shut Them” together before every meal! Click on the links to learn this one together.
- Practice Using Hands and Fingers: Your child is doing lots of activities to develop small movements using hands and fingers. Have your child practice at home by squeezing toothpaste, using their toothbrush, holding utensils like spoons and forks, coloring or painting, doing puzzles, ect.

- Don’t forget to turn in your child’s current Physical (Annual Well Child Check), this can be put in your child’s yellow folder or brought to me, our 30 day deadline is September 8. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

Help Your Child Succeed in Preschool Build the Habit of Good Attendance
Did you know? Showing up on time, every day possible, is important to your child’s learning and well-being from preschool forward.
Missing 10% of school (2 days each month) can make it harder to:
• Gain early reading and math skills
• Build relationships.
• Develop good attendance habits.
Preschool has many benefits!
• The routines your child develops will continue throughout school.
• Regular attendance helps your child gain confidence, delight in learning and make new friends.
What you can do
Talk about it – sing about it – make it an adventure!
• Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
• Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
• Share ideas with other parents for getting to school on time.
Ready, Set, GO!
• If you are concerned your child may have a contagious illness, call your school or health-care provider for advice. Ask for resources to continue learning at home.
• Ask family members or neighbors for assistance if you need help.
• Try to schedule nonurgent medical appointments and extended trips when school is not in session.
•If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to our preschool leadership team or your child’s teacher. We want to support your family through this transition.
