News From LCHS 5/8/26

by zarinneugebauer · May 8, 2026

Dear LCHS Families,

As we move through May and into the final weeks of the school year, I want to thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. There is a lot happening across the building, and we are proud of the work our students continue to do both inside and outside of the classroom.

I also want to make families aware that we will be conducting a lockdown drill on Wednesday, May 13th. The purpose of the drill is to help students and staff practice what to do in the event of a serious emergency. Just like fire drills, lockdown drills are an important part of school safety planning and help ensure that everyone understands procedures, expectations, and how to respond calmly if a real situation were ever to occur.

Last call for ordering yearbooks! Students must have them ordered and paid for by 3:00PM next Thursday, May 14th.

Senior Parents: Here is the End of the Year Senior Schedule.

Here are a few key dates as we come to the end of our school year:

Academic Awards: Thursday, May 21st (Tentative start of 8:30AM)

LCSD Art Show: Thursday, May 21st (5PM – 7PM)

Disney’s Frozen: Thursday, May 28th – Saturday, May 30th

Final Grades Due for Seniors: Thursday, June 4th (4:00PM)

Senior Walk: Thursday, June 11th (AM)

Senior Motorcade: Thursday, June 11th (6:00PM)

Graduation: Thursday, June 13th (10:30AM)

Final Exams: Wednesday, June 17th and Thursday, June 18th

8th Grade Continuation: Wednesday, June 17th (6:00PM)

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,

Scott Carroll

Sports Report

HS girls’ soccer finished their season with a 0-0 tie against Alameda International, a higher ranked team and larger school. They finished the season 6-6-2. Congratulations to those athletes and coaches!

This is a busy week for HS track & field, as they wrap up their regular season and try to post marks for state qualifying. Confirmation on state qualifying will come on Monday, but currently there are 18 athletes in qualifying position!

We have a new HS boys’ soccer coach- Cisco Tharp! I’m excited to welcome him onto our LCHS coaching staff! Cisco will be holding an informational meeting for all 8-11th graders interested in playing soccer next fall on Tuesday (May 12) at lunch in the library. There will be a meeting during both high school and junior high lunches.

Spring football has started! All 8-11th graders are invited to participate. The team is meeting in the weight room Monday-Thursday from 4-6 pm until June 11.

HS boys’ basketball is holding open gyms: Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8 pm in the HS gym.

Open gyms for HS volleyball start next week and will be held on Fridays.

All current 8th graders are now eligible to attend open gyms/fields with the high school teams. Please reach out if you need help getting connected with a coach!

GO PANTHERS!!!

Elevated Community Health

Mental Health Matters This May

May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a great time to check in on your student’s emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, and end-of-year transitions can impact how students feel and perform. The School-Based Health Centers through Elevated Community Health are here to support students with a safe, supportive space and access to care right on campus.

Looking ahead to summer, select School-Based Health Centers will remain open, so students can continue receiving care even when school is out.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 970-710-5049

CMC

The CE team at CMC has been working hard to run another FAFSA/CASFA event to help remove barriers to access our Locals’ scholarships (many outside scholarships require this be completed as well).  CMC is currently running a national survey to collect data on our CE student experience. Please complete the survey here: family survey
